She never imagined an unexpected knock on the door in 1974 would start a friendship that would one day save her life.
Forty-eight years later, the two women remain close friends. They know the importance of sharing a gift and hope others will consider doing the same, be it for someone they care about or someone they’ve never met.
“Never did I think this girl would save my life,” Pat (Pumper) Christensen said. “She means everything to me. I was running out of options. I was running out of people.”
Demolition of the house at 208 Central Ave. N by Deutsch Construction began around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28. By that evening, the roughly 100 year-old-house was gone and crews were spreading dirt around the site. Plans by the City of New Prague call for the spot to be seeded with grass.
The house had been rented by Irene Ellman and her late husband, Kenneth. The couple raised their three daughters in the house.
Governor Tim Walz and Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen visited the Heldberg Dairy Farm, owned and operated by Karl Heldberg, south of Le Sueur the afternoon of July 6 to talk dairy and agriculture. The governor and commissioner spent a great length of time speaking with Heldberg and exchanging thoughts about farmers, their struggles and the state of the dairy industry in Minnesota.
There’s a brief moment just before the first shell is propelled into the heavens above where members of the crew from RES Pyrotechnics holds its breath and hopes they did everything right during the setup.
After that, the crew enjoys the show just like everyone else.

The photos and keepsakes in his office, much of it sports related, needed to be boxed up and prepared for moving. Last week, Tim Dittberner didn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to pack up his office.

Events are east of the New Prague Middle School, beginning at 6 p.m. there will be Kona Ice, Dawgs on the Run, face painting and free massages. The national anthem will be sung by Linda Fahrenkamp with the fireworks at 10:10 p.m.

The affected area includes central and southern Minn., and the tribal nations of Leech Lake, Mille Lacs, Upper Sioux, and Prairie Island.
New Prague High School Principal Nicole Adams submitted her resignation to the school district June 7, board chairman Matt Goldade confirmed today, Sunday, June 18.
The school board has been informed of Adams' resignation, but has yet to formally announce or accept it. The New Prague Times has reached out to Adams for comment.
The first round of interviews for the new high school principal will begin this week, Goldade said.
Elko New Market’s Fire Rescue Days will be held Thursday, June 22, through Sunday, June 25. During the annual festival people in the Scott County community show support for their local fire department.

Holmes authored the book, “Unjust,” due out later this fall featuring a wronglyconvicted man represented by a Minneapolis attorney performing pro-bono work. The attorney, Jason Mickelson, is working with an attorney from the Exoneration Project, Rachel Nix, and together they try to prove a man is innocent. Naturally, there’s a romantic twist involving the two barristers.
MISSING PERSON ALERT: The Prior Lake Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing teen. Keira Dupey, age 13, is 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs 100 pounds and has black/brown hair and brown eyes. Dupey was last seen on May 25 leaving a facility in Prior Lake with Kari Steele, who is also a missing person. Dupey may have traveled to St. Paul or the surrounding suburbs.
New Prague Area Schools held its end-of-the school year celebration Friday, May 26, where it recognized its staff who were retiring.
Among the retirees were Kathy Sticha for eight years, Sheila Heinen for 14 years, Jane Dittberner for 15 years, Sharon Drazenovich and Tim Dittberner for 20 years each, Linda Sirek for 21 years, Dana Smith for 26 years and Lori Bisek for 40 years.

Mitchell Marlow sits in an empty public library on a Sunday afternoon reading emails and performing research. The building has been closed for a day and won’t open Monday until noon, and yet the staff at the Scott County Library system is delighted he’s in the building using technology.
They’ll play a beloved oldtime song Bill Vogel loved at the cemetery following his funeral Mass Saturday. “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” was one of his favorite tunes.
In his perfect world, Bill Vogel would have been a professional baseball player. He could hit and played good defense at first base. Instead, he and his wife raised a family. He ran a bank, taught his children to work hard, be honest. He served his country and community for several decades. Overall, Vogel’s family agreed, he enjoyed a pretty good life lived the way he wanted to live it.
