The Tri-City United (TCU) boys soccer team shut out two opponents in the Section 2A soccer tournament last week.
Those two wins move the Titans into the Section 2A Championship Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Austin against No. 1 seed Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
TCU blanked Wings United, 6-0, Thursday, Oct 10 in Montgomery and did not allow a score in a 3-0 semifinal win over St. Peter Saturday, Oct. 12 in Montgomery.
In the opening match victory, the Titans got three assists and a goal from Cooper Sutherland and three goals from Angel Ruiz Gomez.

Misty Marie (Looft) Lobeck passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024, after a courageous fight with cancer. 
Misty was born on March 18, 1978, to Dale and Gail Looft in Spirit Lake, Iowa.  She graduated from Montgomery – Lonsdale High School in 1996.  She participated in band playing the clarinet and earned the honor of being chosen to participate in the All State Band her senior year.
Misty's amazing memory and gift of organization allowed her to become a valuable team member in the materials department at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, MN, for 22 years.

Janice Marie Sticha, age 81, of Lonsdale passed away peacefully and unexpectedly, on October 11, 2024, following a brief illness.  Born on June 12, 1943, Janice lived a life marked by quiet strength and grace.  She faced adversity with courage, an attribute that defined her throughout her life.  She was a cherished and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, caring, resilience, and wisdom.

“We started slowly as Waseca jumped out to a quick 21-0. After the initial surge, we were able to slow down their explosive offense and get some turnovers,” said Head Football Coach Matt Collins. “After the first quarter, we went back and forth with them, and we had a couple of nice drives. We did a really good job stopping their run game throughout all four quarters.”

Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague broke ground on their $9 million Cancer Center and Infusion Therapy expansion on Oct. 2.
"This expansion of the Cancer Center is a reflection of our commitment to providing cutting-edge care, individualized support and a healing environment for every patient who walks through our doors," says James Hebl, M.D., regional vice president of Mayo Clinic Health System in Southwest Minnesota.

Candidates from our local and state offices that are on the ballot for the election on Nov. 5 this year gathered on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Revival on Main. A group of about 20 citizens showed up to hear what they had to say and answer questions.

The Tri-City United (TCU) school district was in the Homecoming spirit last week.
Parades were held in Montgomery and Le Center for the community and students in the younger grades to enjoy.
In Montgomery, the route started at the Montgomery Pre-K-8 school, went down 1st Street, one block west and north to Holy Redeemer School and back to the PreK-8 School. Pep fest followed both parades.
The band played, color guard performed along with the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders performed classic game chants, and the homecoming court was present.

This past week I saw a literature piece that I assume was sent to almost all households in Lanesburg Township. It was a hit piece about candidate Liz Krocak who is running for a county board seat. The authors of this mailing did not have the courage to sign their names,  which tells me a lot about what I need to know about their character. An unsigned letter isn't worth the paper it is written on.

James Joseph Trzecinski, age 87, of Montgomery, died on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Le Sueur. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. all held at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. Timothy Sandquist officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.

In August, Molter’s Fresh Market announced that it would be ceasing business in Montgomery and would be out of the building by the end of Sept. 30, making it the second time the town was faced with having no grocery store. It was just a year prior that Mackenthun’s Fine Foods pulled their grocery business out of town.
People were surprised that the doors to Molters were already locked and with carts of free items outside the doors on Thursday, Sept. 26, which was a few days earlier than stated that they would close. Many were left wondering the future of the location.

Tri-City United High School’s 2024-2025 Homecoming Queen Audrey Vosejpka and King Wyatt Rutt were crowned on Monday, Sept. 30, during a 12:30 p.m. coronation event in the high school performing arts center to kick-off homecoming week.

The Tri-City United FFA club received a $4,000 check from the Tri-City United FFA Alumni & Supporters group to support the 10 students that are heading to the 97th Annual National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 23-26.

David Edel had a beautiful soul, and his spirit left a mark on so many people throughout his lifetime. He was born in New Prague on October 9, 1951, to George and Gretchen Edel (maiden name Richter), the youngest of 3 children. He grew up in Montgomery, graduated from Montgomery-Lonsdale High School, and attended college at the University of Minnesota. Around 1970, he hitched a ride to San Francisco to pursue his spiritual journey. In California he met Carol Gelband, with whom he would marry and bring two sons into this world. 

The City of Lonsdale’s current city hall, located at 415 Central Street SW, has long been outdated for the city’s needs. In 2018, the city looked into expanding that location, according to Lonsdale City Administrator Joel Erickson.
Erickson said that the current location was just not feasible with the building’s layout and small and awkward lot. Remodeling the current building didn’t feasibly provide for enough parking and space, and the city council, at that time, voted it down.

Most Holy Redeemer Church, originally known as Holy Redeemer in honor of the Holy Redeemer, can trace its roots back to the early settlers of the region.
By the year 1866, numerous Czech Catholic settlers had arrived in the region of Montgomery and Lexington Townships and had erected a Catholic mission church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, known as Budejovice or Budweis. It served people until July 1877.
