New Prague City Utility workers cut into the street near the intersection of Pershing Avenue NE and Fourth Street NE the morning of Monday, Feb. 8, to get to a water main break. The break likely happened where the water main and a fire hydrant connect. The subzero temperatures from the past few days likely caused the break. Raymond J. Jaeckels, age 78, of Northfield, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. 
Raymond was born January 5, 1943, in Duelm, MN, the son of Henry and Hilda (Wegman) Jaeckels. At the age of 15, he moved south to Bloomington, Minnesota and this was the beginning of a 60-year career in the water well drilling business. He was united in marriage to Grace Stauffeneker on March 10, 1962. They made their home outside of Northfield where they raised their four children.

It was a good day for winter fun as temperatures were in the 20s and there was little to no wind. As they played, others youngsters were enjoying the snow at the nearby Sliding Hill.

It’s the first week of February and that means there are already reminders being sent out as to what is being observed this month. Perhaps the three most well known are Valentine’s Day, Black History Month and American Heart Month. Of course there are those observances that are likely not as well known.

Edward Robert Burns, age 88, died of natural causes on January 29, 2021, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Dennis D. Johnson, age 81 of New Prague, MN passed away peacefully on January 17, 2021, after contracting Covid-19, which accelerated his battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Dennis was born August 29, 1939 in Blooming Prairie, MN to Menard and Meta (Stork) Johnson. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Elkton, MN. In 1958, he graduated from Elkton Public School where his lifelong love of football began.

Eileen Florinda (Foss) Chapman, 78, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, at the Mayo Hospital in Mankato.
Eileen was born on April 2, 1942, in Reine Township (Skime) of Roseau County, MN, to Olaf and Florinda (Skime) Foss. She was a 1960 high school graduate of International Falls High School.
Eileen met her sweetheart, Harvey Chapman, at a bowling alley in International Falls when she was 20 years old and they were united in marriage on March 14, 1964, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in International Falls.

Hartman, age 68, of New Prague, died peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Central Heath Care in Le Center, MN.  Mel was born on August 28, 1952 in New Prague to Alfred Christ and Veronica (Deutsch) Hartman.  He graduated from New Prague High School and then entered the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.  He married Carol Nold on November 20, 1982 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague.  Mel owned and operated West End Liquors until retirement.  Mel was Mr.

Jeanette T “Jane” Horejsi, age 93, of Hutchinson, formerly of New Prague, died peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Harmony River Nursing Home, Hutchinson.  Jeanette was born on November 6, 1927 to Frank J. and Eleanor A. (Simota) Mikolasek.  She attended district country school and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School.   Jeanette married George F.

Trojan Head Wrestling Coach, Dan Wagner, earned his 100th career victory with the 46-21 victory over Tri-City United last night, Thursday, January 28, 2021.
Wagner has become the fourth head wrestling coach in NPHS history to reach the 100 victory mark.

Philip Richard Dohmen, age 61 of Montgomery, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.  A private service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
