New Prague swimmers Taylor Bassett and Aspen Schieffer will join diver Maddyn Anderson in the Minnesota Class AA Swimming & Diving meet Nov. 13-15 at the University of Minnesota.

 

New Prague sophomore Maddyn Anderson overcame a big deficit heading into the Section 1AA diving competition's final round and earned a fourth-place finish and a berth in next week’s state diving competition at the University of Minnesota.

 

If New Prague’s top two simmers and its best divers have a chance to reach the state meet at the University of Minnesota, their best will be required.

Coach Cassie Fisher says her athletes are aware of the challenge ahead. The Trojans will begin the Section 1AA competition Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Rochester Recreation Center. The diving preliminary round and finals are slated for Thursday, Nov. 6. The swimming finals are slated for Friday, Nov. 7, at the Rochester Recreation Center.

Host Rochester Mayo turned a pair of New Prague turnovers into touchdowns to blow open a tight game on the way to a 35-20 win over the Trojans in the Section 1AAAAA semifinal Saturday night, Oct. 25.

 

The Dakota-Rice-Scott League will have a slightly different look next summer when teams take the field and the St. Patrick Irish isn’t one of them.

The Irish, a Class A team, announced earlier this month they were leaving the DRS and joining the other Class A teams in the River Valley League. An announcement the team posted on social media noted the move puts the Irish in closer proximity with Class A RVL teams like Burnsville, Chanhassen, Chaska, Eagan, Prior Lake, Shakopee and Victoria.

An impressive comeback effort fell just short of victory as the New Prague girls’ volleyball team lost a decisive fifth game and the match to Farmington in the opening round of Section 1AAAA playoffs tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 22, at NPHS.

 

Outscoring Rochester John Marshall 13-8 in the final two quarters, New Prague High School’s football team topped the Rockets 39-30 Tuesday, Oct. 21, to earn a trip to the Section 1AAAA semifinals Saturday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m., at Rochester Mayo.

 

For three-plus quarters, New Prague gave Chaska all it could handle until Section 2AAA’s No. 2-seeded team’s superior size and speed took its toll in a 26-15 win over NP Wednesday night, Oct. 15, in Trojan Stadium.

 

With the regular season complete, New Prague swimmers and divers are turning their focus and training schedule to prepare themselves for the section meet, a competition where they can earn entry in the state meet.

The New Prague High School girls' soccer team suffered a season-ending loss Tuesday evening, Oct. 7, at Farmington in the opening round of the section playoffs.

After a scoreless first half, the game-winning goal was scored when Farmington was awarded a penalty shot in the 66th minute - with just over 14 minutes left in the second half.

The New Prague High School boys' team also suffered a 1-0  season-ending setback Tuesday night at Rochester John Marshall.

As the regular season nears an end, the NPHS girls’ soccer team is looking to build momentum as it enters section tournament play.

The Trojans endured a tough loss and a draw in the past week. NP faced Benilde-St. Margaret’s Tuesday, Sept. 30, after the newspaper went to press. The Trojans will wrap up the regular season tonight, Thursday, Oct. 2, 7 p.m., at home against Mankato East.

The section tournament is slated to begin Tuesday, Oct. 7, at a site to be determined.

A handful of New Prague High School football players took a few minutes to enjoy the team's first win and post-game pyrotechnics after the Trojans topped Rochester Century, 31-20, Friday night, Oct. 3, at Trojan Stadium. The annual homecoming game included a second-half comeback for NP and a potential-record field goal for the Trojans.

Running in their lone home meet of the season, New Prague’s cross-country teams posted solid showings Thursday, Sept. 25, at Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park northeast of NP.

The Trojans will be in Owatonna today, Thursday, Oct. 2, at Brooktree Golf Course for an invitational race beginning at 5 p.m. for the girls and 5:30 p.m. for the boys. The race is a chance to preview the course where NP will compete in the section meet Thursday, Oct. 23.

New Prague’s girls’ swimming team enjoyed a solid week of competition in its past two meets, with team wins and strong performances against Mankato West and Chaska.

After Tuesday’s meet against TCU in Montgomery, the Trojans will be back in the water tonight, Thursday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m., against Chanhassen at Pioneer Ridge Middle School in Chaska. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 6 p.m., NP will host Benilde-St. Margaret’s at the New Prague Aquatic Center.

New Prague 102, Mankato West 83

New Prague’s girls’ soccer team faced a pair of challenging matches in the past week and came out with a win and a draw.

Tonight, Thursday, Sept. 25, 7 p.m., the Trojans will face Chanhassen High School at CHS. Monday, Sept. 29, 7 p.m., NP will travel to face Rochester Century before returning home to take on Benilde-St. Margaret’s Tuesday, Sept. 30, 5 p.m., in the first of two home matches before the section playoffs commence.

NP enters the regular season’s home stretch at 3-3-5 – 2-2- 1 against teams in the Metro West Conference and 0-1-1 against teams in Section 1AAA.

New Prague runners endured warm, humid racing conditions posting solid finishes at the Tom Watson Stampede at Mounds View Saturday, Sept. 20.

The Trojans host their lone home meet of the season this afternoon, Thursday, Sept. 25, at Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park. The girls’ race begins at 5:30 and the boys’ race commences at 6 p.m.

With five runners finishing in the top 30, the New Prague girls finished third in the eight-team field.
