Parkinson Support Group meets July 20

Book signing at The Depot July 20
Author Mary Gehlen Seifert, who grew up in New Prague, will have a book signing for her book “Maverick, Movies and Murder” on Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. at The Depot, 408 Main St. W in New Prague. The event is sponsored by The Sullivan Group with ReMax Advantage Plus.

The American Cancer Society hosted its annual Le Sueur County Relay for Life event, which is a celebration for cancer survivors as well as those who died from the disease. Honorary Survivor Julie Harmon and her family made the Survivor's and Caregivers Lap at the start of the Relay in Le Center.

The Saemrow family has been named Rice County’s 2022 Farm Family of the Year by the University of Minnesota.
Charles Saemrow first settled the Saemrow farm in the early 1890s. Charles’ son, Herman took over the operation in the 1930s. He was followed by his son Herb in the 1950s. Then, in the 1980s, Herb’s sons Ron, Gordon, Keith, and Wayne assumed ownership. The four brothers and their families own and run the operation.

Linzy Bannie was offered, and has accepted, the Assistant Activities Director position at New Prague Area Schools (pending approval by the New Prague School Board).

This year’s Honorary Survivor of the Le Sueur County Relay for Life knows both sides of cancer.
For close to 43 years, Julie Harmon of New Prague has worked as a nurse at Mayo Clinic Health System (formerly Queen of Peace), New Prague Hospital.
She lives the role of a caregiver.
In July 2018, the role was reversed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, a first for her family.

Le Sueur County Sheriff Brett Mason reports that at approx. 0640 hours on July 1, 2022, deputies responded to a residence located on the southwest shore of Lake Washington, in Washington Township for a Missing Person Report.

New Prague had an incredible fireworks display the evening of Sunday, July 3. There was also beautiful weather for the show as it was clear and temperatures were around 79 degrees Fahrenheit. The American Legion Post 45 Park Ballroom and Jeff Belzer’s were the sponsors of the show that began at 10 p.m. near the New Prague Middle School. The end of the show had the crowd cheering. Per the Scott County Sheriff's Office Luke Hennen, on July 1, 2022, at 7:14 pm, Scott County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch received a report of an unresponsive bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle and found near Zachary Avenue and 260th Street East (CR2) in Cedar Lake Township.

A crowd estimated at 300 people attended the first Music at the Broz the evening of Thursday, June 30, in New Prague. The band Little Chicago kicked off the summer concert festival at the Hotel Broz along Main Street with a mixture of rock/pop and 1960s and ‘70s songs. There was also an art station for children and families to participate in. Other children spent their time dancing to the music. The New Prague Area Arts Council is organizing the six concerts that will be held at the Hotel Broz through mid August. For more see an upcoming print issue of The New Prague Times.

A new facility by Inspire Services, LLC has opened locally and is ready to help people seeking mental health care, counseling, treatment for substance use, or psychological evaluations.
The facility is located at 32298 State Highway 13 in Montgomery and is referred to as “Lakeside,” a nod to the site’s 25-year occupant.

Area residents looking for ways to celebrate the Fourth of July, there are several options.
New Prague will have fireworks the evening of Sunday, July 3, east of New Prague Middle School. The American Legion Post 45 Park Ballroom and Jeff Belzer’s are sponsoring the fireworks show. Before the fireworks people can get treats from Dawgs on the Run, Kona Ice and Cookie Dough Bliss. Linda Fahrenkamp will sing the National Anthem to begin the show, with fireworks at 10 p.m.

Saturday, June 25, was a beautiful evening in more than one way at Union Hill during the Home Town Bats’ Sixth annual Home Run Derby. Sun and warm temperatures in the 80s, plus a good cause, brought a large crowd together to help the Tiede family of Le Center.

A parade of more than 60 tractors rolled through Union Hill Saturday morning as part of the annual Henderson Tractor Ride, which is part of Henderson’s Sauerkraut Days celebration. The caravan of red, blue, and green tractors began at the Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Showgrounds, traveled through St. Thomas, enjoyed a pitstop at Union Hill, and wound through Belle Plaine and Jessenland before proudly rolling into Henderson.

Elko New Market’s Fire Rescue Days Community Parade on Saturday, June 25, had a large turnout as people lined up to see the many entries in the annual parade down Main Street. Vehicles from the Elko New Market Fire Department closed the parade. Fire Rescue Days continues this evening with the ARCA Menards Series Race at Elko Speedway and a street dance at the Doublewide parking lot. (Patrick Fisher Photo)
