It was a night of musical appreciation for people who enjoy music and those who enjoy performing it at the Thursday, Aug. 4, Music at the Broz. The Echoes Big Band provided an evening of musical memories as they performed big band pieces from the 1930s and 1940s. The group of musicians played tunes from Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey, plus standards from the 1950s.

The New Prague School Board is drawing closer to finalizing a proposed voter levy request. At the school board’s Monday, Aug. 8, work session the consensus of the board was to have the levy in two questions and for it to be over a six year period.
At past meetings the school board has been discussing an operating levy referendum with it possibly to be part of the general election this November.

A man from Rice County died in an ATV rollover on August 6.
Marvin George David, 79, was pronounced deceased at 11876 140th St, in Montgomery when rescue officials found him trapped under an ATV.
According to Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas, deputies, Lonsdale Fire and Rescue, and Montgomery Ambulance were dispatched to the scene at 5:53 p.m. on a report of a possible deceased person trapped under the ATV.  
“The ATV/victim was located by the landowner's friend. When responding units arrived, the male was confirmed deceased,” Thomas said.

The primary election tomorrow (August 9), runs from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Residents in the City of New Prague will vote at the New Prague Fitness & Aquatic Center, 410 Central Ave. N
Residents of Elko New Market will vote at the Elko New Market City Hall, 601 Main St.
Those area townships that are having primary elections can find their election sites at https://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us.

It was a busy and beautiful evening with sun and temperatures in the 80s for Czech Out New Prague on Thursday, Aug. 4. The annual event showcases the vast assortment of businesses, non profits, churches, and clubs in the New Prague area. The neighbors of Horseshoe Lane in New Prague gather with New Prague Police Officer Neil Flum during National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 2. It was a night of visiting with neighbors and offering fun and treats for children in the neighborhood. Members of the New Prague Fire Department visited that neighborhood and the Silver Maple Bay Estates neighborhood. Members of the First and Third Minnesota reenactors participate in the Saturday, July 30, ceremony to honor Civil War veteran Corporal Hercules LaChapelle at the St. Louis French Catholic Cemetery, south of New Prague. Energetic was the best way to describe the performance given by the Air Force Starlifter Band on Thursday, July 21, as part of the Music at the Broz in New Prague. The series of summer concerts held on the grassy space west of the Hotel Broz continued its run of having a large crowd and good weather. Crowds have been estimated around 300 people for each concert. Weather for the performances has been warm and sunny.

St. Patrick Church of Cedar Lake’s Summer Festival was described as super. It was an apt description as Sunday, July 24, was a sunny day, with temperatures in the low 80s, plus a large crowd turned out for the annual celebration. Held at the church north of New Prague, the day began with an indoor Mass at 10 a.m. and after services there were games, food and music on the grounds of St. Patrick Church.

Lonsdale will crown its newest Miss Lonsdale and name new ambassadors in the Lonsdale Coronation on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at TCU Lonsdale Elementary School. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The new Miss Ambassadors who are up for the title of Miss Lonsdale are Hannah Reis and Andra Sherman. Reis is the daughter of Michelle and Dion Reis. Sherman is the daughter of Jason and Jenny Sherman.

Braylon Mitchell, Hadley Mitchell, Frannie Peterka and Eleanor Peterka were rocking to the music of the Air Force Starlifter Band during Music at the Broz the evening of Thursday, July 21. The band is formed of Active Duty Airmen and featured mostly high energy rock. The large crowd enjoyed a beautiful sunset as the band played. The cast of Generations Theatre Company’s production of “Matilda the Musical” take time for a photo before a rehearsal on Sunday, July 17. The show opens a two weekend run tonight (Friday, July 22) and will be performed at the New Prague High School auditorium, 221 12th St. NE. Shows will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the dates of July 22, 23, 29, 30 at 7:30 p.m. (previous showtimes for those dates were incorrect) and July 24 and 31 at 2 p.m.

As The Smisek Brothers performed during Music at the Broz in New Prague on Thursday, July 14, there was a cute interruption. Lenny Smisek's, left, granddaughter, Claire Tupy, daughter of Sarah (Smisek) Tupy, announced she had cotton candy. After Claire shared some of the treat with her grandfather the show went on. The Smisek Brothers performed rock, country, gospel and folk music to a large crowd on a beautiful sunny evening. Music at the Broz continues this Thursday, July 21, with the Air Force Starlifter Band.

The David Domonoske family of Waterville has been named Le Sueur County’s “2022 Farm Family of the Year” by the University of Minnesota.
