Nearly three of four educators in Education Minnesota said in a new poll they were directly or indirectly affected by Operation Metro Surge, suggesting a massive disruption in learning for tens of thousands of Minnesota students in the middle of the 2025-26 school year.
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) announced that 70 schools from 45 districts and charter schools, including Tri-City United, will partner with MDE this fall to pilot the Minnesota Kindergarten Fall Assessment (MnKFA), an observation-based approach designed to be embedded in everyday classroom experiences, such as communication, problem-solving, and play.
Kids from around the area gathered at Tri-City United PreK-8 Montgomery and Le Center schools last Thursday, July 16, for a quick lesson in science and theories on dinosaurs from Jason Lindsey.
Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School (MHRCS) graduated seven 8th graders last Friday morning. The day started off with a graduation Mass at 8:30 a.m. where some of the students sang numbers during the service.
Following the Mass, a formal graduation ceremony was held in the church with family and friends present. Individual graduates stood up at the pulpit and expressed their gratitude to their parents and teachers, giving their parents a flower after speaking.
The Tri-City United (TCU) boys track and field team had some great individual performances during a pair of meets last week.
Sophomore Eric Borchardt set a new school record in the 200-meter dash Thursday, April 30 in Montgomery. The Titan sprinter placed third in the race with a new record time of 22.84. He broke the previous record set in 2016 by Eric McCrady.
It was a very good week for the Tri-City United (TCU) girls track and field teams last week.
They started the week with a second place finish Tuesday, April 28 at New Ulm. The Titans scored 143 points to finish behind champion Minnesota Valley Lutheran (167). Two days later TCU hosted their second meet of the season and finished with 185 points, placing second to Providence Academy (202.5).
Tri-City United High School had 30 students, seven teams and two individuals, that participated in Minnesota’s 97th Annual State FFA Convention April 20-21 on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds and the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus.
Members participated in hearing speakers, competitions, workshops, leadership sessions, and an awards ceremony with over 6,000 other FFA members from around the state with the convention’s theme being “Believe.”
Montgomery Community Foundation (MCF) transitioned the care of the third annual event, Montgomery State of the Community, to the care of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce (MCC) while still providing funding support.
Along with the change in oversight came a change of day and format. MCC Executive Director Caitlin Huiras moved the event to a weekday at lunchtime and included lunch this year as a part of the deal in attempts to attract more of the community than what the previous two years brought on a Saturday morning.
TCU Schools held their first of four open houses on Wednesday, April 1, at TCU Montgomery PreK-8 School regarding the upcoming special election on May 12 for a $39.99 million bond.
Tri-City United High School 2025 graduate Alexis Marcussen was named All-Defense Team for the North Region in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Women’s Basketball 2026 All-Region Awards. The awards were voted upon by the by each of the region’s coaches.
Marcussen plays for the Bellevue College Bulldogs in Bellevue, Wash., as a guard. It’s a suburb of Seattle. This season she has played in 28 games and started in 25 of those, playing an average of over 26 minutes a game.

The election in November 2025 came in with a failing vote for the Tri-City United School District’s $39.99 million dollar bond.
Tri-City United High School one act play director Elise Lundeen announced that due to the extreme cold weather, The Last Fire Fly public performance scheduled for tonight, Thursday, Jan. 22, will be postponed until sometime next week with details to be announced later.
Students will still be participating in Section 2A Subsection One Act Play competition this Saturday though at TCU High School in the performing arts center.

In November, the tax base that showed up to vote voted 926 in approval and 1,088 in opposition.
The $39.99 million bond for Tri-City United Schools was rejected by voters in the Nov. 4 election despite $7,982,004 being covered by the state Ag2School Tax Credit.
Tax impact on a $400,000 residential property would have been between $10.12-$10.66 a month, generally replacing a couple bonds that would be falling off over the next few years and not raising the current amount people were being taxed by much.
The $39.99 million bond for Tri-City United Schools was rejected by voters in the Nov. 4 election despite $7.982,004 being covered by the state Ag2School Tax Credit.

The three precincts voted in total 926 (45.98%) in favor and 1,088 (54.02%) opposed.
Lonsdale voted to pass with 311 in favor and 269 opposed.
It was an action-packed, pleasant week for Tri-City United Schools homecoming week.
Festivities were kicked off Monday with coronation and the start of daily themed dress-up days. Wednesday was a flip of the sports with boys playing a volleyball game and the girls playing the powderpuff football game.
