Kolacky Days held a festive Meet and Greet event Monday evening, introducing the Grand Marshall for this year’s event and a chance to get to know the current and competing royalty.
Montgomery City Council member Mick McGuire was presented as this years Kolacky Days Grand Marshal. McGuire moved to Montgomery in 1956, at the age of four, and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1971. He attended the University of Minnesota College of Agriculture and graduated from there in 1980. McGuire returned to Montgomery in 1980 and ended up running a business here for 36 years. He was a part of the ambulance crew for 30 years, from 1981 to 2011. McGuire has volunteered and been on boards of many community organizations, including Aging Services and NEY Nature Center.
One of McGuire's first memories of living in Montgomery was near the age of four, when he arrived. He said, “Where did we move to, because the people spoke a different language?! It was a very special place to me growing up.” McGuire emotionally ran through a list of places all over the town of Montgomery where he said he had fond memories. He was notably humbled to be chosen as the Grand Marshal this year, stating, “This is a great honor for me.”
In addition to the announcement of the Grand Marshal, current reigning royalty was present, as well as current candidates for Kolacky Queen and their Little Sisters. Candidates roamed the crowd at Memorial Park, introducing themselves before taking the microphone and giving a brief statement about themselves. They stood next to their Little Sisters during the evenings events, something that was introduced last year and the Montgomery Area Community Club (MACC) says that they are expanding a little more this year. The MACC board says, “These are young women that girls look up to and by pairing them with a candidate, we hope it encourages them to be candidates later.”
Anyone in attendance at the Meet and Greet was able to have a free kolacky or cookie. Concertina music was provided during and before the start of the program by Scott Smisek. The MACC also had Kolacky Days-branded clothing and other items for sale.

...The MACC says that they are still in need of many volunteers for this years Kolacky Days, from Wednesday, July 26 through Monday, July 31.
