Two people from Le Sueur were killed when their snowmobile hit a power pole in Blakeley Township in rural Scott County Sunday, March 3.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call at approximately 4:27 p.m. Sunday about a snowmobile crash with injuries at the intersection of 280th Street W (State Highway 19) and Lehnert Lane, which is just west of the interchange with Highway 169.

Judith Ann Whipps, 81, of Le Center passed away at her home after a 3 year battle with ALS on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019. Visitation will be Saturday, March 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Le Center with services following at 2:30 p.m.
Judy was born on April 8, 1937, in Faribault to Clayton and Betty (Kotek) Janovsky. Judy was the 7th of 10 children. Judy attended St. Raphael’s Elementary School in Montgomery and graduated from Montgomery High School.

Pauline Lucy Krenik, 92, of Lonsdale, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at her son’s home in Lonsdale. Visitations will be held Monday, March 4 at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery from 5pm to 7pm and 1 hour prior to Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague at 11am Tuesday, March 5 with Father Thomas Krenik officiating. 

“Masopust”, the time of carnivals which historically ended on Ash Wednesday, is the oldest continuous holiday feast in the Czech lands. Montgomery has been celebrating it short of 20 years, most recently on Sunday.
Among the dancing, celebrating and eating, a new ambassador was crowned. Andrew Trnka, son of Jon and Ronna Trnka of Montgomery, takes over the duties from Zach Tuma who held the position for two years.
Andrew was one of two candidates interested in the role. The other was Ben Heyda.

The Minnesota River Bulldogs will face No. 3 seed East Grand Forks in the first round of the State Class A Boys Hockey Tournament, which begins Wednesday, March 6, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The Minnesota River Bulldogs Hockey Team is heading to the State Tournament for the first time after their 5-3 win over Rochester Lourdes in Rochester on Thursday night. The Big Dance begins on March 6 at the Xcel Energy Center and ends on March 9. The co-operative team, which includes Le Sueur-Henderson, Tri-City United, Cleveland, Belle Plaine and St. Peter High Schools, celebrates on the ice at the Rochester Recreational Center after their win. The New Prague adapted floor hockey team won two games last week, defeating Winona and St. Paul Humboldt.
The team was scheduled to host Stillwater Tuesday, Feb. 26, and Burnsville/Farmington/ Lakeville Wednesday, Feb. 27. New Prague plays at Minneapolis Edison Thursday, Feb. 28, and will play their regular season finale on Tuesday, March 5, at home against South Washington County.
New Prague, which has athletes from Tri-City United, Le Sueur-Henderson, Jordan and Belle Plaine, has a 4- 1 record going into this week’s games, with one week left in the regular season.

The Czech Heritage Club is hosting a “Dumpling Make and Take” at 7 p.m. Tuesday March 12, at the New Prague Library.
Anyone ages 9 and up is welcome to attend. Hana Matousek, a native of the Czech Republic, will show how to make a fast and simple kind of dumpling that the participants will make and take home. Hana has been active in different food events, especially with the Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota, and has taught many cooking and bargain classes.

After being postponed twice, the Minnesota River Bulldogs were finally able to play hockey Tuesday night.
The boys hockey team took on the Albert Lea Tigers in sectional playoff action in Rochester.
Both teams started strong with the drive to score first and keep the momentum in their favor.
Third seeded Albert Lea took a couple shots early, but each was deflected by Minnesota River goalie Andrew Regner.

Curtain Call Theatre brings “The Odd Couple, Female Version” to the area for two weeks, beginning Friday.
The Neil Simon play has been a crowd-pleaser since it debuted on Broadway in 1965. Twenty years later, Simon wrote a female version which debuted on Broadway. In Curtain Call’s version, Olive (slob) is played by Heather Jenness, and Florence (neat freak) is played by Linda Gare.

Harry Tuma, 75, of Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m. with Father Victor Valencia officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale.
Harry was born on June 16, 1943, in Lonsdale to Emil and Emma (Smisek) Tuma. Harry attended Immaculate Conception School in Lonsdale and attended New Prague High School.

Patricia David, age 75 of Northfield, passed away Sunday morning, February 24, 2019, at Three Links Care Center.
Survived by include her children, Jodi (Cliff) Shoutz of Chaska, Mark (Cassandra) David of Dundas, Lori Vosejpka of Northfield; 10 grandchildren; her sister, Janice Borgstahl of Faribault; and her brother, Roger Carpenter of Faribault.
At Pat’s request, no service or visitation will be held.  She will be buried at Trebon Cemetery in Kilkenny. Cards for the family will be accepted at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. 

Irene Margie Zvanovec, 87, of Montgomery passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague on February 23, 2019. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 1 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11 a.m., with Father Victor Valencia officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.

Tri-City United Schools will be closed on Monday, Feb. 25 due to area road conditions made impassable from ice and blowing snow. According to Superintendent Teri Preisler, the day will be a Blended Learning Day for students. There will be no AM Preschool, however, Kidzone will be open from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Strong defensive plays and stick handling helped advance the Minnesota River Bulldogs in the Class A boys hockey sectional playoffs.
The #2 seeded Bulldogs, faced #7 seeded Austin Packers Thursday night in Le Sueur. Coming off a bye in the first round, the Bulldogs held the Packers to two goals and 19 shots on goal in the matchup.
