A semi truck tipped over around 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, on 10th Ave. NE (formerly Scott Co. Road 37) in New Prague, coming to rest on the sidewalk next to Roundbank. New Prague Police, North Ambulance, New Prague Fire Department and Scott County Sheriff's Office are on the scene, and the Minnesota State Patrol is en route. Firefighters pinched off a leak in the fuel line and were soaking up diesel fuel that had spilled. It appears the semi took out one utility box, but just missed a larger one and also just missed a fire hydrant at the intersection.

After being rained out on Sunday, Faribault's Matt Lane and Montgomery's Johnny Krocak squared off in a pitcher's duel Monday, with both taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The Lakers' Mitch Johnson got the game's first hit in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff double and he eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Carpentier for the game's only run as Faribault defeated Montgomery 1-0. The Mallards got their first hit in the sixth on a bunt single by Aaron Dwyer.

Prior Lake, New Market and St. Patrick won their first round games in the Region 3C Playoffs Sunday, July 28. A fourth game, Montgomery at Faribault, was postponed due to rain and will be played at 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, in Faribault.

The intersection of 12th Street and Columbus Avenue NE, near New Prague High School, will remain closed through at least August 2 as workers construct a roundabout at the intersection. Above, removal of the street surface and curb and gutter took place on Thursday, July 25. Once work is done on this intersection, the intersection of Seventh Street (formerly County Road 37) and Columbus Ave. NE will be closed for about two weeks for construction of another roundabout.

St. Benedict and Lonsdale botb claimed wins on Friday, July 26, to win their DRS Baseball best-of-three series 2 games to 1 and advance to the Region 3C playoffs, which begin Sunday, July 28.
St. Benedict’s Nick Heitkamp drove in two runs with a double in the bottom of the ninth to give the Saints a 4-3 win over Union Hill.
Lonsdale defeated Veseli 8-5 to claim their spot in the region tournament.
The eight-team double-elimination Region 3C playoffs begin Sunday with the following match-ups scheduled.
Lonsdale at No. 1 seed New Market, 1 p.m.

The New Prague Post 45 American Legion baseball team couldn’t hold on to a 5-2 lead and lost to St. Paul Park 7-6 in the Sub-State Tournament Friday, July 26, ending their season with a 10-7 record.
New Prague parlayed a leadoff single and a double by Nate Picka, along with two errors, into a pair of runs in the first inning, and scored once in the second and twice in the third, again with the aid of errors.

Angel Cortes hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to give New Prague Post 45 a 6-5 win over Rosemount in the Sub-State American Legion baseball tournament Thursday, July 25. Rosemount had jumped to a 5-1 lead, but New Prague chipped away at the lead before getting the winning run in the sixth. Nate Picka pitched 5-1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win.
New Prague is now 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament. They will face St. Paul Park at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville. If they win, they play at noon on Saturday, July 27

Francis E. “Frank” Schoenbauer, age 89, of Jordan, died peacefully in the arms of his wife on July 26, 2019 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital. Frank was born on March 25, 1930 in Helena Township, Scott County, MN to Frank J. and Mary (Malecha) Schoenbauer. He was raised in the New Prague area, attended farm school, and graduated from New Prague High School. At age 25, he was drafted into the US Army and proudly served in a medical evac corps in Korea and Japan. Frank married the love of his life, Doreen H. Kadlec, on September 6, 1958 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Betty A. Klinghagen, age 74, of New Prague, died suddenly at her home on Thursday, July 25, 2019.  Betty was born on December 15, 1944, in Willmar, MN to George and Anna (Hanson) Vikse.  She was raised in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School.  She married the love of her life, Earl J.

Prior Lake and Montgomery won spots in the Region 3C playoffs with two-game sweeps in their best-of-three DRS playoff series, while two other series are headed to a game 3 Friday, July 26.
The Prior Lake Mudcats defeated Webster 9-3 Thursday in Elko to win their series 2-0. Cole Bjorge and Lucas Pumper both homered for the Mudcats.
Montgomery traveled to Shakopee and claimed a 7-0 win. Rob Marshall had six strikeout and allowed three hits for the complete game win, Mike Flicek had four hits and Eric Iverson had a two-run home run.

New Prague has a lot to offer, and next week’s Czech Out New Prague event will showcase just that.
The event, to be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Memorial Park, will feature more than 50 different businesses and organizations. Area residents are welcome to come to this free event and see what goods and services are available from area businesses and what service organizations offer to the community.

For years, Joe and Charlotte Kodada have worked behind the scenes of Lonsdale Community Days, however this year will be different because the life-long Lonsdale residents are this year’s parade grand marshals.
Earlier this month, the Kodadas received news from Lonsdale Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shanna Gutzke-Kupp. In her letter, the director said the couple was chosen because they have been an integral part of the community for years.

New Prague Post 45 American Legion baseball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to tie Burnsville 2-2 in the sixth inning, but Burnsville scored a walk-off win with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 3-2 win in the opening round of the Sub-State Tournament Wednesday July 24, in Burnsville.
Joe Becker pitched 6-1/3 innings and took the loss for New Prague. he also had a two-run double in the sixth inning.

A four-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 21 and County Road 2 north of New Prague shortly before 4 p.m. closed traffic at the intersection. Among responding agencies were the Minnesota State Patrol, Scott County Sheriff's Office, New Prague and Jordan Police, New Prague Fire Department, two North Memorial ambulances, a Northfield Ambulance crew, and two medical helicopters, one from North Air and one from Mayo. Neptune Aquatics, the USA Swimming club based in New Prague, will send five swimmers to the Minnesota Long Course State Meet, Thursday through Sunday, July 25-28, at the Rochester Recreation Center. This year’s state team consists of 9-year-old Kellan Krance, 10-year-olds Alexis Day and Carolyn DeLuca, 12- year-old Jacob Bisek and 16- year-old Katie Pattee.
Swimmers earned their way to the state competition with a state-qualifying time or winning their respective event at the Minnesota Long Course Regional Championships (MRCs), held July 19-21 in Mankato.

Caleb was helping Noah, who had several rabbits entered in the 4-H Rabbit competition. The Scott County Fair, held near Jordan, continues through Sunday, July 28.
