Although the regular season didn’t progress as seamlessly as planned, New Prague’s cooperative indoor softball team won a berth in the state tournament Wednesday, May 6, with a big win over Anoka in the league playoffs.

    The Tri-City United softball team won three of their four games last week, all against Big South Conference opponents.
    They opened the week on Monday, May 4 with an 8-7 loss to Fairmont. The following afternoon the Titans defeated Waseca, 11-1, in five innings. The week ended with TCU sweeping a doubleheader from Marshall, winning 9-8 in eight innings in the first game and 10-8 in the second game.
    TCU improved to 8-5 overall with the three straight wins and are now 6-5 in the conference (4th place overall).

    Tri-City United School’s middle school team, Circuit Surfers (3589F), placed 332nd in the world at the Vex V5 World Robotics Tournament April 25-27 at the America’s Center Convention Complex in downtown St. Louis, Mo.
    The team headed south on Friday, April 24 in school vans to compete with teams from 38 different nations across world in this year’s challenge — Push Back. The Circuit Surfers even decked out their booth on location with beach/surf decorations, as well as wearing tropical themed attire for the grand occasion.

    Tri-City United High School and TCU Montgomery School grades 5-8 choir director John Sosa’s contract was not renewed for next school year, terminating his employment as at the end of this school year.

    It was a very good week for the Tri-City United (TCU) girls track and field teams last week.
    They started the week with a second place finish Tuesday, April 28 at New Ulm. The Titans scored 143 points to finish behind champion Minnesota Valley Lutheran (167). Two days later TCU hosted their second meet of the season and finished with 185 points, placing second to Providence Academy (202.5).

    Tri-City United High School’s FFA students once again showed their pride in agriculture through another “Drive Your Tractor to School Day.”
    FFA students gathered early on Thursday, April 16, on the south end of Montgomery for a light breakfast and for each other to gaze over the other’s tractor — or in the case of one individual, a road grader.

    The Tri-City United (TCU) baseball team showcased its strong potential and grit this week, moving to 4-2 on the season with back-to-back victories over Waseca and Sibley East. Behind a masterful one-hit shutout and a power surge that included a key home run, the Titans' depth was on full display as the pitching staff kept opposing bats at bay while the offense may have found its stride.

    Tri-City United High School was again host to the Section 2A North Visual Arts Festival. Schools within the subsection presented about 120 pieces of art in total, up from about 90 last year, according to TCU High School Art Teacher Tony Barnack.
    The Titan students, 15 in total, displayed the maximum allowed per school of 18 pieces, which included drawings, paintings, sculptures, crafts, digital photography, and ceramics.

    Tri-City United High School’s spring play, “Dragon’s Lair” by Katie B. Oberlander and directed by 8th grade teacher Sarah Mejia, is a meld of two worlds.
    “Basically it’s Shark Tank with fairytale characters and proposition,” said Kylie Anderson (Buttercup Twinkletoes/Fairy Godmother). “The fairytale characters will go to the dragons instead of the sharks, and we have to tell them basically if we are wanting their product or not.”

    Tri-City United High School’s baseball players spent five days from Tuesday, March 24, through Sunday, March 29, having fun, warming up, and learning for this year’s season in Melbourne, Fla., nearby to Cocoa Beach. Players only missed three days of school for the trip.
    TCU’s Head Baseball Coach Greg Westerman introduced the trip, organized by the TCU Baseball Booster Club, early last year to the school board and received approval for it in May 2025.

    Tri-City United High School again has five young artists in the 2026 High School Art Show at Waseca Art Center, which runs through May 1. Students from around the region will have their works on display there. 
    The exhibit will culminate with a workshop for the students with a professional artist on Friday, May 1, and awards will be given for Best in Show, Best 2-D Artwork, Best 3-D Artwork, and People’s Choice — where visitors to the center can vote on their favorite piece in the exhibit.

    The Tri-City United (TCU) girls track and field team won three of the four field event championships and five other titles in the Belle Plaine Indoor Triangular Saturday, March 21 at Myers Field House at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
    Juniors Louise Stock and Kaitlyn Hartwig each won two titles helping the Titans place second to a very strong Belle Plaine team. The Tigers won the event with 88 points. TCU followed with 69 points and Glencoe-Silver Lake placed third with 12 points.

    Minnesota Business Professionals of America (BPA) held their annual state leadership conference this past weekend, March 5-7, at the Minneapolis Hyatt Regency with more than 1,200 students competing in different categories. 
    Tri-City United High School’s BPA club had 10 students compete at state, of that were two that qualified for national competition to be held in Nashville, Tenn., from May 5-10. 

    Music students from Tri-City United High School participated in the Section 2AA Solo and Ensemble Contest last Wednesday, March 4. 
    The school’s jazz band and the Encore choir both received the highest rating, a superior, at the contest.

    For the second time Tri-City-United (TCU) junior Tucker Skluzacek had a chance to stand on the podium at a Class AA State Wrestling Tournament.
    Skluzacek, wrestling at Class AA 145 pounds, won three of his five matches to place fifth overall this past weekend at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul. He finished his outstanding junior season with a 43-8 record.
    Skluzacek opened with a 15-4 major decision over Foley sophomore Jacob Demarais. 

    Tri-City United (TCU) junior Tucker Skluzacek will be making his second Class AA State Wrestling Tournament appearance after winning the 145 pound weight class in the Section 2aA Tournament Feb. 21 in Delano.
    Skluzacek advanced to State in 2024 and placed 5th as a freshman.
    He was the top finisher among the 10 Titan wrestlers who competed at Sections.
