Le Center’s Parker O’Malley and Kaitlyn Hartwig were crowned Tri-City United High School’s 2026 Homecoming king and queen Monday afternoon, Sept. 28 in the school’s performing arts center.
Montgomery City Council approved its preliminary levy for 2027 at Monday’s regular meeting, with the absence of council member Daniel Siebsen and the late Mick McGuire’s open seat. The proposed levy, which had to be presented by Sept. 30 by state law, amounts to $3,710,409, which is a 5.22% increase over the adopted 2026 levy of $3,526,356. These preliminary numbers are set as in they cannot increase but could decrease before a final levy is adopted in December.
The Tri-City United High School’s fishing team had a good season, finishing in the top five in the conference and sending two to the 2026 Minnesota Junior B.A.S.S. High School State Championship Tournament Sept. 12-13 on Leech Lake at Leech Lake, Minn.
TCU duo Ryan Barta and Michael Gregor, along with their adult boat captain Timm Moravec, headed up north to finish placing 19th out of 80 teams at the state tournament. Their total bag weight was 19.55 pounds, with the first day’s bag weighing 10.84 pounds and the second day’s bag weighing 8.71 pounds.
Montgomery Chamber of Commerce hosted a free event for local small businesses at Inspire Services on Wednesday, Sept. 16 to help them better understand how artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the ways in which their business is being discovered or not discovered in the online world by customers.
Hannah Bretz, acting director at the South Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center (MSBC), led the session. Previously to being the director, Bretz was a consultant at the center for 11 years.
Nineteen of the 60 graduates of the Montgomery High School Class of 1961 gathered at the American Bar & Grill in Montgomery for a 65th reunion luncheon. Class member Evelyn (Prchal) Duban says it’s something they do every year.
The 1961 class was the 58th annual commencement for the school, which was held in what is now the elementary and middle school auditorium on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m.
Montgomery’s Eva Tikalsky was crowned 2026-2027 Miss Czech-Slovak Minnesota Queen during the pageant Saturday evening at the Park Ballroom in New Prague.
The daughter of Naima du Chatellier and Christopher Tikalsky, Eva Tikalsky was joined on stage by first princess Wren Zwaschka of Mankato and second princess Evelyn Winget of Nerstrand. The junior ambassadors chosen are Annika Budin of Montgomery, Lillian Skluzacek of Nerstrand, Cailyn Meadows of Montgomery, Abigail Mader of Kilkenny and Clara Winget of Nerstrand.
The Titans will “(Re)Discover” the ’90s for homecoming next week. Rebecca Wiseman, homecoming advisor and high school teacher, put together a fun set of days for students to celebrate, which were announced Monday, Sept. 21 to students during the unveiling in the high school performing arts center during advisory time.
Area 4-H clubs sent many participants to compete at this year’s Minnesota State Fair. Le Sueur County 4-H had 39 livestock participants in this year’s fair by itself.
Overall, there were 4-H participants from all 87 counties with over 2,778 animals and 1,900 general exhibits on display. Le Sueur County4-H programs itself had 29 general exhibit participants with 31 projects at The Great Minnesota Get Together.

The Blandin Foundation out of Grand Rapids, Minn., has awarded $4,560,600 in grants for its second quarter of 2026, of which nearly $500,000 was invested in entities that service our area.
This is the report for the Montgomery Fire Department (MFD) from the month of August 2026. A total of five calls were responded to in the month and a total of 61 calls through the end of August. Training in August was on water rescue and confined space rescues with Safety and Security Consultations Specialists (SADCS).

Boasting words are in the buttons for new artists for Kolacky Days Button Design Contest winners, as seen with new and first-time entrant designers the last few years.
Button design entries for next year’s Kolacky Days festival are being accepted now through Oct. 23. Persons of any age and ability level are welcomed to submit their design.
This year’s designs must include the words “Kolacky Days,” “93rd Annual,” July 23—25, 2027,” and “Montgomery, MN” (or Minn. or Minnesota), and optionally can include “Kolacky Capital of the World.”
Six members of the Montgomery Fire Department (MFD) participated in the 14th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., on Sept. 12. This is the the department’s third year participating in the event.
