His best days were spent on a dirt bike, on some other form of motorized machine or in the garage building or improving anything with a motor he could make run better. Levi Schelhaas died way too young doing exactly what he loved. And in his death, he helped other people enjoy life in their own way.
The numbers are in for those exhibiting at the Le Sueur County Fair last month. Le Sueur County 4-H says that 269 youth exhibited 1,613 projects, 145 youth exhibited animals and livestock, and 198 youth exhibited general projects at this year’s county fair.

Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church pews were filled on Tuesday, Aug. 25, with family and friends celebrating the life of Mick McGuire at his funeral.
Nate Goldenman read a eulogy at the beginning of the service. McGuire’s brother, Dan McGuire, was Mick McGuire’s urn bearer, which remained both an honor and privilege and saddening reminder of everyone’s loss in the community.
A reception was held following the service at the Revival on Main in Montgomery. Outside the hall was Mick McGuire’s truck with his homemade canoe attached to the top.

J-turns are used to decrease fatalities and injuries caused by broadside crashes on four-lane divided highways.
At a J-turn, drivers on the side street approaching the divided highway always make a right turn. To cross the highway or make a left turn from the side street:

Mild weather gave the Le Sueur Free County Fair time to shine last week. The 169th annual fair was held Thursday through Sunday.
The fair had a 1950s car theme, which was apparent in the style and the many competitions held throughout the week — from kids pedal pull to the truck and tractor pull. Young and old had a contest they could participate in, and many spectators came out to cheer them on.
Of course, there was a car show, where actual 1950s cars could display their beauty. In all, 120 cars participated in the show.
The City of Montgomery recently updated its website and, in the process of doing so, people subscribed to its notifications system were not transferred. This left people who normally were signed up to receive alerts via text and/or email for things like snow emergencies and other important city notices, in the dark.
Update: Fifteen-year-old Levi Schelhaas of rural New Prague passed away Friday, Aug. 21, from injuries suffered during a crash while riding his dirt bike Tuesday, Aug. 18.
His obituary appears on The New Prague Times' website and will be in the Aug. 27 print edition of The New Prague Times.

After conducting interviews last Wednesday, Aug. 12, Montgomery City Council chose Jesse Johnson of Cannon Falls, Minn., as their new city administrator at Monday’s council meeting.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Johnson is a 20-year veteran of the United States Army and Bronze Star Medal recipient. The 49-year-old lives in Cannon Falls with his wife of 24 years, Teresa, and has four kids — two boys and two girls, with three of them being in college.
