Dale Gaul, 64, of Montgomery, died on Saturday, September 11 at his home, after his long and courageous fight against cancer. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, September 16 at 10:30 am at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. Tom Niehaus, officiating. Military honors were provided by the Montgomery area Honor Guard. Interment was held in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.
Dale was born on June 17, 1957, in Slayton, MN to Anton and Ruth (Schwartz). He was a graduate of Holy Redeemer Catholic School and attended Montgomery High School.

The Titan Tennis team got off to a great start when they hosted Maple River on September 16, but ended up losing the match 3-4 against the Eagles.
Titan Coach Diane Tiede said the No.1 doubles of MacKenzie Holmbo and Alexis Hoefs got off to a great start in their match, but just seemed to run out of gas in the end.
She also noted that Cynthia Balcazar and Kacie Traxler battled from behind to get a well-earned win at No. 3 doubles.

Lowell E. Tangen, age 68, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side at his home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.  Lowell was born on March 7, 1953 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Selmer E. and Dorothy M. (Erickson) Tangen.  He grew up on the family farm near Hawley, MN, graduating from Hawley High School.  He graduated from the agricultural college of Crookston Junior College in 1973 and then went on to attain his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science, graduating with honors from the University of Minnesota in 1974.  Lowell married the love of his life, Marsha E.

A Le Center man was one of 12 people injured Sunday, September 19 when a semi struck six passenger vehicles from behind on southbound I-35. The vehicles were stopped for a construction zone.
According to State Patrol incident reports, the incident occurred near milepost 73, just south of Elko New Market, at 7:52 p.m.
Rice County Sheriff, Northfield Fire, New Market Fire, Scott County Sheriff, and New Market Police responded.
Murray D Wood, 58, of Manitoba, MB, was driving the 2016 Kenworth T680 semi. He was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

Students and staff in the TCU School District are celebrating good times as they hold Homecoming Week.
The annual event started Monday and runs to Friday, Sept. 24.
As part of the festivities, the high school announced the Homecoming Court on Friday in the Performing Arts Center in front of the student body. The candidates were Reice Narum, Dylan Hunt, Adam Henze, Caleb Whipps, Brendan O’Keefe, Molly Closser, Charlotte Houn, Kacie Traxler, Lauren Houn and Madison Dooley.

The purpose is the same, but the event that celebrates survivors, remembers those who lost their battles, and raises money to fight cancer, will look a little different this year.
Sara Slavik, one of the organizers for the Le Sueur County Annual Relay for Life, said they have adjusted the relay so it will be more of a family event. It will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 instead of the middle of July when it was held on a Friday.

The TCU Swim and Dive Team sent a small group of girls to the Mankato East Tom Johnson Cougar Relays event in Mankato last weekend.
According to Coach Kristen Munden, all races were swam in a relay format.

Schools in the Tri-City United School District are celebrating Homecoming this week. In the schools, fun events and dress-up days are planned to make the annual tradition a fun one.
At the high school there’s Hidden Volleyball and Montgomery Messanger Sports Lip Sync, among other things for the kids to do safely. I like the events the kids will be able to participate in during the week.
However we know kids have minds of their own and come up with their own ways to have fun during this week, some of which may not be smart.

Alvin “Al” G. Nasinec, age 86, of Montgomery, MN, died Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Traditions in Montgomery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery, MN, with Father Greg Havel officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 24, 2021 from 4-7 pm at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

After a year off due to COVID-19, the Heidelberg Athletic Association’s annual event for its park and pavilion returned Sunday with strong support from area communities.
“It was the best turnout!” said Therese Hlavac, one of the event’s organizers. “Every dollar we earn goes into the Park, because all of the officers and workers are volunteers.”
The event had something for everyone. Inside of the pavilion were brats, burgers and more food for sale. Outside, there were several vendor booths selling a variety of items and equipment for the kids to stay entertained.

The TCU Titan Volleyball Team had a full day at the net Saturday when the team participated in the Waterville- Elysian-Morristown Volleyball Tournament in Waterville.
TCU played five teams in the Pool B. The Titans played games against Cleveland, Minnetonka, St. Clair and Grand Meadow twice.
Against Cleveland, TCU lost both sets 10-25 and 22- 25.
Against Minnetonka, TCU lost both sets 15-25 and 14- 25.

Tri-City United is going to “Celebrate Good Times” next week when it holds Homecoming Week, which runs to next Friday, Sept. 24.
The high school announced the Homecoming Court on Friday. The Coronation will be held on Monday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the high school Performing Arts Center. The event is open to family, seniors, and juniors. There will be a life broadcast for the rest of the public.
Each school in the district will celebrate Homecoming with special events and dress-up days. At the high school, the theme is “Celebrate Good Times.

The Titans continued their winning streak beating Sibley East 20-7 in a Saturday afternoon conference game in Montgomery.
TCU 0-14-6-0-20 Sibley East 0-0-0-7-7
In the Wolverine’s first possession, running back/ defensive back Cole Franek intercepted a Sibley East pass, giving the Titans control. However TCU failed to capitalize on the possession and turned it over on downs. The back-and-forth quarter continued without either team scoring.

After a whirlwind of events—a family wedding “up north,” John’s grandpa’s funeral (north, but not so far north), our 16th wedding anniversary, our girls starting separate sports, and the groove of a new school schedule—my family of four opted to stay home all Labor Day weekend.
You can probably guess what that means…
Saturday and Sunday were spent cleaning.
Our home—and yard--had paid the price of our crazy busy August schedule, and it was time to address the mess.

Pieces of Czech culture in The Czech Heritage Club’s exhibit, “A Kaleidoscope of Czech Heritage,” have been put away.
The display at the Montgomery Arts and Heritage Center, that ran during the summer, ended on Saturday, Sept 4.
The display, celebrated Czech costumes, glassware, art, crafts, and food, as well as the beloved pastime of mushroom hunting and some of the culture’s more colorful folktales. All together, the individual displays provide a vivid, multi-faceted vision of past and present Czech culture—a kaleidoscope of Czech heritage.

The little Irish City of Kilkenny, Minnesota, did it again. The town, which boasts a population of 168, hosted hundreds of visitors for another grand ol’ Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day celebration on Saturday, Sept. 11. The day’s events included a car show, an Irish-themed parade, live music, food, local vendors, fireworks, and the ever-popular annual Toilet Bowl Races, which features teams of three racing down a street atop a rolling toilet and chugging beer (or root beer).
