Heidelberg Community Day had beautiful fall weather on Sunday, Sept. 11, which is why it likely had its largest crowd for the annual celebration. Held in Heidelberg Park the annual celebration in the city six miles southwest of New Prague offered something for everyone. There were inflatable play areas for children, a large assortment of vendors for the whole family and food. There was also a Car Show for car enthusiasts. All proceeds from Heidelberg Community Day go to maintain Heidelberg Park, which is maintained by the Heidelberg Athletic Association.

According to a press release from the Scott County Sheriff's Office:
On September 10, 2022, at 12:49 a.m., Scott County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle crash that occurred on 240th Street East, just west of Cedar Lake Drive in Cedar Lake Township.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a pickup truck fully engulfed in flames and an adult female near the vehicle with injuries consistent with a motor vehicle crash.

There was a silent auction at the local brewery, which was also being held online. A DJ was providing music all day for the fundraiser, which was being held until 8 p.m. Food trucks were also present providing snacks and meals.

Geraldyne (Gerri) David (Sheehy), age 85 passed away on August 21, 2022 at Central Health Care Center in Le Center, MN.
Gerri grew up with her parents and siblings on a farm near Waterville where she learned to bake, sew, garden and grow to have a strong faith in God. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1956.
Gerri married Jacob John David on June 14, 1961 at the Church of St. Canice in Kilkenny, MN. On February 22, 1963 they welcomed son Dennis John David to their family.

One team was expected to advance into the final round of 16 teams. The other team had never been there. But, both St. Patrick and Webster will now be playing in the final weekend of the Class C Baseball Tournament this weekend in Faribault and Dundas.
St. Patrick was the Region 3C Champions and have been to State numerous times. They received a first round bye and picked up their opening tournament win Friday, Aug. 26 with a 5-1 victory over Urbank.

A professional artist from southern Minnesota has entered his work in several state and federal wildlife art competitions over the past 23 years and has his work in private collections in 45 states and five countries.

As a little boy, Vern Trcka enjoyed helping his grandma, Otillia Ziskovsky, plant her large zinnia garden every spring.
He’d walk behind her as she tenderly dropped the precious seeds into the shallow furrows, and he would cover them—ever so slightly—with soil.
“Only cover them a 1/4-inch, no more,” Trcka advised. “They’re pretty hardy, but that—the depth you plant the seeds—you’ve got to watch. It’s what Grandma always did.”
And, Grandma Otillia knew what she was doing.

The race is on for seats on the Montgomery City Council and TriCity United School Board after filing periods closed Tuesday, Aug. 16.

The City Council race will have two elections. One will be for two seats with four-year terms each that are being held by Mick McGuire and Brad “Butch” Kubes.
Four people have filed for that election, McGuire, Zack Matson, Daniel Siebsen, and Dennis Smith.

Of all the different articles and subjects I write about each week, composing a personal column is always the hardest. Telling the world about my everyday experiences in an amusing and relevant way is the worst form of writer’s block.
I’m guessing that in the 22 years I’ve been the editor of the Messenger, I’ve written more than 1,000 of these personal pieces. I’ve told stories about dressing up as the Easter Bunny’s helper, visiting the grade school, and then getting trapped in the boys’ bathroom in said costume while kids tried to talk to me.

The 49th Annual Pioneer Power Show held its daily parade at 12:30 p.m. of tractors on Friday, Aug. 26, with a wide assortment of tractors, including steam powered ones. The Pioneer Power Show started August 26 and will be held this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27 and 28. The Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Association holds the annual show which has tractors and farm equipment. This year the show also features vintage and antique snowmobiles from the 1950s through the 1980s. There is also music, food, a tractor pull for the large vehicles and a smaller one for kids on Saturday.
