David Roy Viskocil, age 75, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Precious Loving Home Care in Peoria, AZ. He will be interred at Fort Huachuca Cemetery in Sierra Vista, AZ, with military honors. He was preceded in death by his father Frank Viskocil and mother Margaret Viskocil. He is survived by sister Bonnie Alexander, Montgomery, MN, and brother William Viskocil, Hereford, AZ.

Dennis Vlasak, age 74 of Shieldsville passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Shieldsville with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30 a.m. with Father Tom Niehaus officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Shieldsville.

After 25 years apart from her husband Bill, and 59 years from her infant son James, Mary Margaret (Guttenberg) Young, has reunited with them in heaven.
Surrounded by her loving family, Mary, 81, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato on Sunday, April 16 after a sudden illness.
Mary was born on April 21, 1941, in Fargo, ND, to Casper and Eleanor (Landsberger) Guttenberg. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School, and graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck.

Yesterday, Thursday, March 13, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has closed Highway 93 from Henderson to Highway 169 due to flooding.
Traffic is detoured to Highway 19 until the water recedes.
The roadway will reopen when water has receded, and crews are able to make any necessary repairs.
When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.

The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office reports a team of searchers looking for signs of Shawn Michael Mooring found a body presumed to be Mooring this morning, Friday, April, 14, in the cattails and trees along the southeastern shoreline of the Silver Lake in Cleveland Township.
 

Tri-City United School District’s Activity Director Chad Johnson was selected by his 40 peer athletic/activity directors to be the 2022-2023 2A Regional Athletic/Activity Administrator of the Year. Johnson’s good friend Jeff Boran, Activities and Community Services Director for Waterville-ElysianMorristown Schools, nominated him for the honor.

Alvin "Al" Edward Peroutka, 78 of Livingston, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. Al was born on November 1, 1944 to Edward and Evelyn Peroutka (Tuma) in New Prague, Minnesota. After leaving home he worked for Kimmat Mink farm, Hruby Implement, John Deere, started a small mechanic shop, while in Minnesota. He then moved to Nebraska and was Maintenance Manager that worked on the equipment for the City of York, until moving to Texas and opening his own construction company, Al's Construction.

Patrick O'Meara, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10 surrounded by his loving family at his home. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 20 from 3 pm-7 pm at the Le Center Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 21 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior. Military honors provided by the Le Center Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center.

Myrtle May Kucera, age 86, of Montgomery, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System New Prague. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 9 am-11 am with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am all at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. Tom Niehaus officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Fitness and Aquatic Center - Silver Sneakers, New Prague, MN or Alzheimer’s Association.

The 34th annual Miss Czech Slovak Minnesota Pageant is Saturday, April 15 at the Montgomery American Legion.
Dinner, only available with advanced ticket sales, will be from 5 to 6 p.m. and includes pork, dumplings, sauerkraut and kolacky. The after dinner program emcee’s are Anne Jans and Heather Vikla Dovias. The Czech Little Sisters are Annika and Adalyn Budin. Wyatt Jans will be a Czech helper.

The Minnesota River Bulldogs/St. Peter Youth Hockey Association’s girls’ 12U B team went into the District 9 tournament as the first seed and proved why as the team won the tournament championship.
The Bulldogs, made up of girls from Montgomery, Lonsdale, Le Sueur, St. Peter and Le Center, faced Austin in their first game and won in overtime, 3-2. On Sunday, Feb. 19, the Bulldogs then played Dodge County for the District 9 championship title and pulled out a 4-2 victory. This is the first Minnesota River 12U B team to win the District 9 championship.

Joe “Joey” Luis Leija Jr., age 62, of Montgomery, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11 from 3-7 pm at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Montgomery.

Robert Lee Selly, age 86, of Le Center, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Horizon Place in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13 from 4 pm-7 pm at the Le Center Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 14 at 11 am at St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry with visitation 10 am - 11 am also at the church. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Henry Cemetery.

Steven Roy Pany, age 65, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022, at Norbella Assisted Living, Prior Lake, following a brief illness.
Graveside service will be held at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Montgomery at 11 am on Saturday, April 15 with Pastor Jason Pollington. A Celebration of Steve's Life will be held at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan at 1 pm.

John George Stasney, age 96, of Montgomery, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Central Health Care in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12 from 4pm-8pm at Schoenbauer Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. Tom Niehaus officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Military Honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Veterans Honor Guard.
