Gladys “Dee” Soulek, age 97, of Eagan, died peacefully, as the result of a fall, with her family at her side, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital.  Dee was born on February 11, 1927, in Montgomery, Minnesota, to George and Albina (Jakes) Trcka.  She graduated from Montgomery High School and married Clarence E.

Union Hill got just enough offense and defense this past week to win a pair of Dakota-Rice Scott League games.
Wins over Montgomery Friday, June 7, and Veseli Sunday, June 9, improved the Bulldogs’ record to 6-2 in the DRS, just behind league-leading New Prague. The Bulldogs will host the Orioles Sunday, June 16, 2 p.m.

Carrie Rose (Sticha) Simon, age 47, of Montgomery, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 2, 2024, after a courageous battle against cancer.
 Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Father Tom Niehaus officiating. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague.

Lillian Marie Dornfeld, age 95, of Montgomery, died on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at The Villages of Lonsdale. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 15 from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Nick VanDenBroeke officiating all held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale.

Eighth-grader Carly Hartwig took second place in preliminaries with a time of 57.83, and at finals took third place with a time that beat her own state Class AA record 56.99 in the 400 meter dash. Hartwig was outpaced by this and last year's second place finisher Kaela Skistad of Monticello with a time of 56.38, and Brooke Hohenecker of Providence Academy, who now holds the new Class AA record of 56.35.
Seventh-grader Nyadak Ruei placed 11th in the high jump finals, at 5'3". It was her first visit to the state tournament.

Marilyn Mae Reddemann, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed from this world on May 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. Born on October 18, 1940, to Mildred and Jasper Shaver, Marilyn's life was a testament to faith, family, and a spirit of adventure. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. with Funeral Service at 11 a.m. all held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center.

As we close out Mental Health Awareness Month, a very personal collection of various mediums of art is on display at the Arts and Heritage Center in Montgomery. Joe Deutsch’s collection of art, never intended to be in any sort of gallery or on display, found its way to the center by means of knowing the president of the board of directors for the Arts and Heritage Center, Maureen Gunderson. Gunderson suggested that he should display his art, knowing his story with it. Gunderson’s husband, Deutsch’s high school shop teacher, also encouraged him.

Volunteers, homemakers and staff of Aging Services for Communities (ASC) were honored for their dedication to helping senior citizens and people with disabilities at a special recognition event Wednesday, May 15.
Approximately 70 volunteer drivers, homemakers, their guests, the Montgomery office staff and guests were treated to a full meal and door prizes at The Little Dandy in Le Center.

Earlier this month, six Tri-City United High School students loaded a bus and headed to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport to board a plane for Chicago to participate in the 2024 Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference, May 10-14. 
Over those five days, they were able to meet over 6,000 students from around the United States and compete against them for the right to be called the best in the U.S. 

Two individuals and one relay will be representing Tri-City United (TCU) at the Class AA State Track and Field Championships Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 at St. Michael- Albertville High School.
Seventh grader Nyadak Ruei, eighth graders Carly Hartwig and Jillian Houn, freshman Kaitlyn Hartwig, and sophomore Guadalupe Lopez will compete against the best athletes in Class AA.

Dolores Jean Kaisersatt, age 89, of Montgomery, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. She passed peacefully at home while surrounded by family.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 29, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. all held at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. George Grafsky officiating.  Interment will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery. 

Lloyd Carl Svoboda, age 85, of rural New Prague left the loving arms of his family to join God in eternal life on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Central Healthcare of Le Center. 

Memorial Day
Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, events remembering our veterans will start with a religious service and a parade — leading east on Vine Avenue from Most Holy Redeemer Church, south on 1st Street, and west on Elm Street and stopping at the American Legion.
The Legion will feature a program with Guest Speaker Amy Larsen, who is the American Legion 3rd District Vice Commander, member of the Department of Minnesota National Security Team, Commander of the Lonsdale American Legion Post 586; and Vice Commander and Chaplin of Lonsdale Post 586 Honor Guard.

If there is something that sticks out in my memory from last year’s Memorial Day program, it was the following two things.
One, there was almost no one, outside of the families of military and military veterans themselves, that showed up at the Memorial Day program at the Montgomery American Legion.
Two, the one thing that was asked of people by the veteran presenting was that you take out time to thank veterans but also to show up and do something in remembrance of those veterans on a day such as Memorial Day.

The Tri-City United (TCU) boys and girls golf teams have been rather busy between raindrops during the month of May.
The girls competed in the Minnesota River Conference Meet May 6 at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan. They did not field a complete team of four golfers, but three did compete.
Senior Morgan Gjerstad led the team with a nine hole score of 62. Freshman Payton Huffman placed second for the Titans with a 68. Sophomore Lily Kaplan carded a 75.
