The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has released the names involved in the two-vehicle, fatal crash on March 2.
According to Steve Collins, Captain of Services and Support for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Marcia Back, 32, of Morris, the driver of the Hyundai Elantra, died at the scene. Ryan Trcka, 20, of Montgomery, the driver of the 1995 Chevrolet pickup, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Calls to the hospital regarding the status of his condition, were not returned.

On Oct. 28, 1902, Albert and Anastasia Krenik delivered a beautiful baby girl named Adeline at their Lanesburg Township farm. On a crisp fall day, the new parents carried their newborn to the city of New Prague and climbed the three wood steps to enter the wood framed St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church to christen their new daughter, Adeline Helen. Having anticipated this important day, a beautiful white cotton christening gown was lovingly sewn and hand embroidered.
The New Prague City Council unanimously approved two liquor licenses for a new liquor establishment, The Local 105, at its Tuesday, Feb. 16, electronically held meeting. Michele Kotek, operating as DJMS Enterprises LLC, The Local 105, had applied for an on-sale intoxicating liquor license and a Sunday liquor license. Her business will be located at 105 Main St. E, plus the adjacent outdoor patio at 107 Main St. E.

Blumberg, in her fifth year of Girl Scouts, was going to be selling Girl Scout cookies until 5 p.m. in front of the shop owned by her mom, Ginny Blumberg. Taylor had sold more than 100 boxes of cookies at the same spot on Saturday, Feb. 20.
A respected Czech Country supper club has become the latest victim of the COVID-19 pandemic, announcing its permanent closure on Thursday.
The Lakeside Supper Club, located on Lake Pepin on Highway 13/21 between Montgomery and New Prague, has been closed since the initial COVID-19 "stay at home" order in March last year, and will not be re-opening.
In a Facebook post to its patrons, owner George Kukacka and Catering Manager, Jayne Hirdler, made the decision with “heavy hearts and profound sadness” not to re-open.
New Prague Utilities has installed five public charging stations for electric vehicles around the City of New Prague. Two-level II chargers and one-DC fast charger can be found in the Northwest parking lot of Coborn’s. An additional two-level II chargers are located in the South parking lot of City Hall.

At the New Prague City Council’s Tuesday, Feb. 16, electronically held meeting City Administrator Mike Johnson submitted his letter of retirement and resignation from the City of New Prague, which will be effective on Friday, Aug. 20 of this year. With his retirement Johnson will have spent more than 39 years in city management, the last 13 years with the City of New Prague. In his letter he stated that he believed the six month retirement notice will aid the council in its search for a new city administrator. Hunter LeCuyer, a student at St. Wenceslaus School and volunteer at the annual St. Wenceslaus Soup Supper on Monday, Feb. 15, was among those letting people know they had sold out. A total of 316 quarts of soup, which were chicken noodle, vegetable beef and chili, were prepared and were sold off in 90 minutes. This year’s supper began around 3:45 p.m. and was take out only due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Per Governor Walz today, effective Saturday, February 13 at noon, further steps to reopen Minnesota’s economy safely, are listed below.
· Increasing the “not to exceed” capacity in restaurants to 250, while leaving the maximum capacity at 50 percent
· Increasing indoor entertainment “not to exceed” capacity to 250, while leaving the maximum capacity at 25 percent
· Increasing private events and celebrations “not to exceed” capacity to 50, while leaving the maximum capacity at 25
Members of the New Prague Fire Department were busy cooking up 800 halves of chicken on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Knights of Columbus Hall as part of their annual chicken dinner. Firefighters started cooking at 12:30 p.m. The extra smoke was due to temperatures at -5 degrees Fahrenheit and keeping the cooking area closed up for warmth. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year’s dinners were pre-sold and would all be take out meals that would include chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, bread and cake. The department had set up a drive through area for those picking up their meals between 5-7 p.m.
All Scott County Library locations are open. Customers may briefly visit libraries in person during walk-in Express Service hours to browse materials, complete quick computer transactions, and check out. If you aren’t ready to visit your library, you may still take advantage of Curbside Pickup or make a 1-hour Computer Appointment during Appointment Hours.
