After a few weeks of preparation, the New Prague High School’s girls’ and boys’ track teams are starting their journey toward being in top form for the season’s biggest meets in May.
The Trojans enjoyed their first look at competition Saturday in a non-scored indoor meet against conference competition at Orono. New Prague will host its first outdoor meet at Trojan Stadium, weather permitting, tomorrow, Friday, April 11, 4 p.m., against Northfield and Mankato East.

New Prague’s boys’ volleyball opened its season at home Thursday, April 3, against No. 2-seeded Eastview. The Lightning struck down the Trojans in three sets, 25-15, 25-13 and 25-13, but New Prague made Eastview fight for those wins.

The Warhawks will seek another national championship next week at the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships April 14- 19 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Warhawks last claimed the USBC national title in 2022.

In addition to the personal and team accolades she earned during her playing career, New Prague senior Katie Boulanger has been named all-state/honorable mention among Class AAAA players.
Boulanger was named one of 24 recipients of the honorable mention honors in Class AAAA. Ten players from each class (1A to 4A) were named to the all-state team

With victories over teams the New Prague-TCU-Belle Plaine-Le Sueur Henderson-Jordan co-op floor hockey team faced during the regular season, the Trojans' returned from Coon Rapids High School Saturday evening as undefeated state champions.
After defeating South Suburban, 11-4, Friday evening, Feb. 7, and South Washington County Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8, the Trojans capped off the day winning the championship over Stillwater Area, 11-8. The semifinal win over South Washington County marked the only time all season the Trojans trailed in any of the 11 games they played.

New Prague senior, Lawson Eller at 121 pounds in Class AAA won 22-2 in his first round against Paxton Carl. Eller advances to the quarterfinals.
New Prague sophomore, Owen Johnson at 189 pounds also advanced to the quarter finals as he defeated Luke DeChene, 13-3.

Despite their best efforts, the New Prague High School girls' basketball team couldn't overcome Farmington and suffered a season-ending loss, 71-64, in the quarterfinal round of the Section1AAAA playoffs Wednesday night, Feb. 26, in Farmington.
The game was played after the Feb. 27 print edition went to press.

With one final home game remaining, the New Prague floor hockey team has earned a berth in the state tournament again this year and played for a top seed in the regularseason finale against Dakota United.
At 7-0, the Trojans hosted DU yesterday, Wednesday, Feb. 19. The Trojans’ unblemished record includes a win over their nemesis the past two seasons, LakevilleFarmington-Burnsville. The Blazin’ Cats defeated New Prague in the championship game last year.
The state tournament is March 7-8 at Coon Rapids High School.

Shortly after he felt his right knee buckle after collapsing to the turf covering a kick return this past fall, AJ Weber knew his football season was done. He worried about the hockey season.

A night after the Trojans just missed winning a state team championship, two of its members finished atop the medal stand in the all-around competition at the Minnesota State High School League’s Class AA gymnastics competition for individuals at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.
Saturday, Feb. 22, New Prague senior Ava Bruegger won a state championship in the all-around competition with cumulative score of 37.6500 – a score including what coach Darrell Christianson said was a .70 deduction for fall during Bruegger’s balance beam routine.

The Trojans will advance to state meet Feb. 21-22 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.
New Prague finished with 147.235 - topping Prior Lake. The Lakers finished with 145.325. The rest of the field finished well behind New Prague and Prior Lake. This is the third time the Trojans have defeated PL this season.

NPHS girls’ basketball team enters the end of the regular season looking to build momentum. They faced Orono, one of the state’s top Class AAA teams Tuesday with it ending in a close 74-69 loss. NP heads to St. Louis Park Thursday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m., to take on the Orioles. Saturday, Feb. 15, 1 p.m., NP travels to Owatonna for an important section game against the Huskies.
NP coach Eric Specht said a win over the Huskies is important to possibly receiving a seed worthy of a home game in the section playoffs.

New Prague’s boys’ basketball team continues to have a tough time. The Trojans lost a home game Tuesday, Feb. 4, to Waconia, 71-56, and fell short in a close, 61-56, Friday, Feb. 7, game at Chaska. New Prague has three home games this week. The first was Tuesday, Feb. 11, with a 93-64 loss to Orono. Next, the Trojans host St. Louis Park Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., then faces Kasson-Mantorville Friday, Feb. 14, 7 p.m. in the Trojans’ gym. New Prague will be on the road Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Benilde-St. Margaret’s for a 7 p.m. game.

With the meat of its schedule on the horizon, the New Prague High School floor hockey team enjoyed big wins in the past week.
In the past week, the Trojans co-op team topped a co-op team of players from Chanhassen-Chaska-Shakopee and Prior Lake Tuesday, Jan. 28. They also thumped South Suburban Thursday, Jan. 30, in Bloomington. The wins improve NP’s record to 5-0.
