While New Prague High School’s boys’ basketball’s season came to an end Wednesday, March 4, its final two games of the regular season were against Waconia and Chanhassen. NPHS faced Waconia Friday, Feb. 27, with an 83-73 loss. On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Trojans had a difficult game against Chanhassen ending with a 73-63 loss.

Wednesday, March 4, the Trojans had their first and only game of the Section 1 Class AAAA tournament.

New Prague High School’s had a strong showing at the 2026 MSHSL (Minnesota State High School League) State Wrestling Tournament last weekend as Azalea “Z” Kallal (girls, 106 pounds) repeated winning the state title. Joining her in first place was Rhilynn Tolzman (girls, 100 pounds) in her first state appearance. Charlie Wagner (boys, Class AA, 107 pounds) also made his first state appearance at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, taking fourth. Aeralyn Palmer (girls 118 pounds) fought hard and went 1-2 for her first state appearance.

NP falls to champs in Saturday semifinal round

Rebounding from a tough loss in the semifinal round to the tournament’s eventual champion, the New Prague Trojans’ floor hockey team took third-place honors at the Minnesota State High School League’s floor hockey tournament at Bloomington Jefferson High School.

Any momentum the New Prague girls’ basketball team may have gained from winning their final regular season game of the season didn’t hold up well as the Trojans fell in the opening round of the Section 1AAAA playoffs Wednesday night, Feb. 25, at Lakeville North.

Heading into the state tournament, New Prague High School’s cooperative floor hockey team seems ready to begin a strong defense of its state championship from a year ago.

The opening round is the big question mark. New Prague will face Shakopee-Prior Lake-Chaska-Chanhassen tomorrow evening, Friday, Feb. 27, 8 p.m., at Bloomington Jefferson High School’s activities center. See the team congratulations page in the print edition for the bracket information.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, New Prague’s girls’ basketball team is looking to build momentum as it prepares for a probable section game on the road.

Coach Eric Specht sees New Prague is a likely No. 6 seed in the section playoffs. NP defeated Rochester Century and has a better record than Rochester John Marshall (6-18 overall, 0-7 against section teams), he said. Rochester Mayo and Lakeville South are expected to be the top two teams in the section, followed in some fashion by Lakeville North, Owatonna and Farmington.

New Prague High School’s wrestling team pinned down its first two opponents, Delano 50-15 and Mankato East 43-16, on the way to the section 2AA tournament championships, where the Trojans battled Scott West into a 25-25 tie, but lost on criteria. New Prague ends its season in second place with an overall record of 28-3.

The Trojans will participate in the individual portion of the section to try and qualify some individuals for state. Wrestling begins 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in Delano and continues at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.

Despite having their best meet in several weeks, the New Prague High School gymnastics team came up just short in successfully defending their Section 2AA crown Friday, Feb. 13, in Eden Prairie.

 

Having won the Metro West Conference in undefeated fashion, the next task on the New Prague High School gymnastics team’s to-do list is earn a section championship and a return trip to the state meet.

The Trojans will take aim at earning a return trip to the state meet tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 13, 5 p.m., at Eden Prairie at the section meet.

If the New Prague boys’ ice hockey team wants the best seed it can earn heading into the Section 1AA playoffs, a pair of wins this week is really important.

The New Prague Archery Club’s high school team finished second at the New Prague Archery Open Tournament Saturday, Feb. 7, at the high school.

Competing against some of the best Class AAA competition in the state, New Prague High School’s dance team saw its season concluded Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Section 2AAA competition.

With three teams qualifying for the state meet, NP finished seventh in jazz behind champion Edina and state qualifiers Wayzata and Minnetonka, Hopkins, Chanhassen and Chaska. Eden Prairie, Waconia, Shakopee, Robbinsdale, Armstrong and Buffalo finished behind NP.

With one final meet between the regular season and the Section 2AA competition, the New Prague High School boys’ swimming & diving team is working to be in top form as it hopes for a good showing at the section competition.

The Trojans face Owatonna this evening, Feb. 5, 6 p.m., at Owatonna Middle School. They’ll have two weeks to rest, workout and prepare for the section meet Wednesday, Feb. 18-19, at Pioneer Ridge Middle School in Chaska.

With a pair of wins in the past week, New Prague’s floor hockey team is making its final push for an automatic bid into the state tournament and avoid a potentially grueling playoff.

After several setbacks against Metro West and non-conference teams, Tuesday night’s win was just what the doctor ordered for the New Prague High School girls’ hoops team.

The Trojans topped Rochester Century Tuesday, Jan. 27, 90-62. The win was a big one for the Trojans not because it stopped a losing streak, but also because it was against a section opponent. NP took a 49-33 lead to intermission and outscored the Panthers, 41-29, in the second half. Details of the contest will be available in an upcoming print edition of The New Prague Times.

Although the win total is greater than a year ago, New Prague’s girls’ ice hockey team is looking for more momentum heading into the section playoffs.

The Trojans dropped a pair of games in the past week to Rochester Mayo and Chaska/Chanhassen. New Prague heads west to face Waconia tonight, Thursday, Jan. 29, 7 p.m. NP wraps up the regular season Friday, Jan. 30, 7:15 p.m., against Minneapolis. The section playoffs begin Friday, Jan. 6, 7 p.m., at a site to be determined.
