Jake Deutsch made a big defensive play in the bottom of the sixth to stop a Blaine threat, then singled and scored the winning run in the seventh as the New Prague Trojans upset the No. 2 seed Blaine Bengals 7-6 in the quarterfinals of the State Class AAAA baseball tournament Friday, June 14, at CHS Field in St. Paul.
The Trojans scored a run in the second when Cade Pavek scored on a base hit by Sam Novak.

Members of the New Prague High School baseball team got a big sendoff Thursday afternoon, June 13, as they left for the State Class AAAA baseball tournament in St. Paul. A big crowd of fans, including family members and players with the New Prague Youth Baseball Association, cheered them on as they boarded a bus. New Prague is scheduled to face Blaine at 3 p.m. Friday, June 14, at CHS Field in St. Paul in a first-round game.

New Market is now the lone undefeated Class C team in the Dakota-Rice- Scott League, as they won three games during the week, upping their record to 13-0. The Muskies have a 3-1/2 game lead over second-place St. Patrick, which lost their first game of the season to Faribault.
Faribault, Elko and Prior Lake all won two games as well during the past week.

A send-off for the New Prague High School baseball team will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the New Prague High School bus parking lot, on the north side of the building. Those attending are asked to park in the North Student parking lot, directly across from the Skateboard park, to avoid congestion behind the high school, and then gather in the parking lot where the bus will pick up the varsity players. This event is for students, parents, fans and New Prague Youth Baseball players, who are encouraged to wear their Trojan baseball uniform or Trojan gear.

The New Prague Trojans will face Blaine in the fist round of the State Class AAAA baseball tournament Friday, June 14, at CHS Field in St. Paul.
Coaches for the eight tournament teams seeded the top five teams Saturday. Stillwater, the defending state champion, received the top seed and Blaine was seeded No. 2. Hopkins is the No. 3 seed, with Mounds View No. 4 and East Ridge No. 5. Three of the seeded teams (Stillwater, Mounds View and East Ridge) are from the Suburban East Conference.

After scoring a combined eight runs in the first four games of the Section 1AAAA tournament, the New Prague Trojans erupted for 10 runs Wednesday, June 5, in a 10-3 win over Lakeville North to win the section championship and earn a trip to the state tournament.
Joe Becker started and pitched five strong innings to get the win. Luke Tupy pitched the final two innings. Drew Picka went 4-for-5 and Becker had a couple RBIs early in the game to help New Prague's cause.

The New Prague Trojan boys track and field team ended its season Friday, May 31, at the Section 2AA meet. While the Trojans did not advance any athletes to the state meet, Coach Nick Meyer said that the team had a strong showing on the Gustavus Adolphus College track.
“We had one of our best team performances of 2019,” Meyer said. “We were proud of the energy that our athletes brought to the competition, and it was fun to see so many of our athletes reach their goals and show improvement.

Softball team fought hard in both of their games at last week’s state tournament, but came up short in both as they went 0-2 in the tournament at Chanhassen High School.
The Trojans opened with a 9-4 loss to eventual tournament champion Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville and then lost 8-6 to St. Cloud. The team, which includes players from New Prague, Tri-City United, Belle Plaine and Jordan schools, ended their season with a 4-6 record.

New Market and St. Patrick remain unbeaten and atop the Dakota- Rice-Scott standings through games of June 2. The Muskies claimed two wins last week, over Union Hill and Webster, while the Irish defeated Lonsdale.

Needing just one win to earn a berth in the state tournament, the New Prague Trojan baseball team faced Lakeville North for the Section 1AAAA championship Tuesday, June 4, in Dundas.
Rain delayed the start of the game two hours, and the Trojans held a 2-0 lead going into the top of the fifth, when rain started falling again.
The Panthers scored four runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead. As the rain continued, the Trojans batted in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn't score, and the game went into a rain delay.

The New Prague Trojan baseball team advanced to the Section 1AAAA championship game with a 4-1 win over Lakeville North Saturday, June 1, in Dundas.
New Prague will play at 5 p.m. against whatever team comes out of the loser’s bracket - Farmington, Rochester John Marshall, or Lakeville North - at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, in Dundas. If the Trojans win that game, they will advance to the state tournament. If they lose, the two teams would play a second game to determine the section champion.

The New Prague Trojan adapted softball team lost its opening round game in the State CI Adapted Softball Tournament Friday, May 31, at Chanhassen High School. The Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville Blazing Cats defeated them 9-4.
New Prague plays St. Cloud in the consolation round at 9 a.m. Saturday at Chanhassen. If they win that game they play in the consolation championship at
1:45 p.m.

Aidan McLoone and Samantha Kubes qualified for the State Class AA Girls Track and Field meet, which will be held Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8 at Hamline University.
At the Section 2AA meet in St. Peter, Kubes won the shot put with a toss of 36 feet, 9 inches. McLoone placed second in the long jump on Wednesday, with a leap of 16-11.75, and in the triple jump on Friday, with a leap of 35-7.25.
The girls finished fifth as a team. Waseca won the section championship.

The New Prague Trojan boys lacrosse team finished its season last week with three wins, defeating Southwest Christian, Mankato and Lakeville South in JV action.
The team ended its inaugural season with an 8-5-1 record, playing mostly against junior varsity teams. Activities Director Brad Skogerboe said he expects the team will play a varsity schedule next year.

After a one-day postponement, the New Prague Trojan girls track and field team hosted its Last Chance invitational Wednesday, May 22. The meet served as a last chance for JV athletes to compete and for varsity athletes to get in one more competition before the Section 2AA Tournament. That tournament was scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 29, at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, with finals set for Friday, May 31.
New Prague won the Last Chance meet with 180.67 points. Waseca was second at 120.83, followed by Kasson- Mantorville (32.5) and Waconia (30).

More rain meant more postponed games in the Dakota-Rice-Scott league this week.
Four league games were postponed earlier in the week, but the sun dried the fields so games were played Friday and Sunday, but Monday’s Memorial Day deluge resulted in six more postponements. The nine games that were played saw nine different winners, ranging from a 38-hit, 25-run slugfest in which St. Patrick defeated Montgomery 13-12 to a pitcher’s duel that saw Prior Lake defeat Union Hill 2-0.
