Judy E. Judd, age 74, of Faribault, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her home following an extended illness.

The WEM volleyball team defeated NRHEG 17-25, 25-10, 28-26, and 25-20 to claim their seventh straight Sub-Section Championship Thursday, Nov. 3 at New Prague High School. The Bucs will face Belle Plaine Saturday, Nov. 5 at approximately 7:45 p.m. at St. Peter High School for the Section 2AA Championship.

John Albert Bokelmann, age 68 of Waterville, passed away after a five year long, courageous battle with Kidney Cancer. On the afternoon of Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

The protracted drought in the area has prompted the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to name Scott and Le Sueur counties and several neighboring counties as disaster areas.

Earl Marvin Bosshardt, 86, of Shoreview, MN, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 in St. Paul, MN.

Three WEM volleyball players had a dozen or more good serves in leading the Buccaneers to a three-set sweep of St. Clair Thursday, Oct. 27 in Waterville in the South Sub-Section opener.
Junior Grace Baker was 12-of-12 serving with an ace. Freshman Addison Condon was 19-of-20 with an ace. Sophomore Ashlyn Pelant was 18-of-20 serving with two aces.
WEM, 16-13 overall, defeated the Cyclones 25-15, 25-19, and 25-7. All 10 players in uniform played for the Bucs.

Local residents will have a chance to cast their ballots for local, county, state, and school board candidates during the Tuesday, Nov. 8 state general election.
Waterville residents will have a race for two city council positions and four Tri City United School Board members. They will also be voting for US. Representatives, State Representatives, and a county commissioner.
Morristown residents will also be voting for two city council positions, State Senator, US. Representative, and they also have races for Rice County Sheriff and Rice County Attorney.

Brayer Anthony Morales Cruz, age 19 of Waterville, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Judy Ann Cheney, age 57 of Elysian, died at her home on Monday, October 24, 2022. Born in Mount Clemens, MI on July 30, 1965, Judy was the daughter of Robert and Janice (Reed) Weinert. She was raised in the communities of Richmond and St. Clair, MI, and attended school in the East China School District of St. Clair County, MI. She worked on roofing crews as a shingler for many years, and later worked for Gear & Broach (now North American Gear & Forge) in Waterville.

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School crowned its Homecoming King and Queen during a ceremony on Monday morning, Oct. 10.
The new king and queen are Jaxon Hulsing and Jordan Green.
Queen Jordan is the daughter of Kyle and Kristina Green.
King Jaxon is the son of Cory and Mary Hulsing.

The WEM/JWP girls cross country team put together their top performance of the season, tying for the top spot in the Grizzly Pie Run held Thursday, Sept. 29 at Prairie Ridge Golf Course in Janesville.
The Grizzlies and Maple River tied for championship scoring 53 points each. The Eagles won the tie breaker which is determined by the sixth runner to finish the race. Maple River’s runner was 21st and WEM/JWP’s was 25th.
The other team scores included Blooming Prairie (81), Blue Earth Area (93), United South Central (100), and Medford (103).

The 2022 WEM Homecoming Week activities will begin Monday, Oct. 10 and run through Saturday, Oct. 15. The theme this year is T-Bird Barbecue and Cardinal Cookout!
The opening day of the week will feature the King and Queen Coronation at 10 a.m., Oct. 10, A reception and pictures will follow.
