The City of Elko New Market held an open house for an Alternative Urban Areawide Review (AUAR) on the Adelmann family property, east of the town. Community Development Specialist Renee Christianson and City Engineer Rich Revering answered questions about the review of the approximately 70 acres of property, which is located near the Interstate 35 interchange and currently in New Market Township.
During a presentation on the property, Christianson explained that 20 acres is located north of Scott County Road 2 and 50 acres is on the south side of the road. She said the AUAR is a type of environmental assessment. The plans for the property are long range. She noted there is also a need for the overpass of Interstate 35 to be redone since it is a 1960s era bridge. Christianson said the agreed upon design for the bridge is a diverging diamond interchange.
The city has been working with the Adelmann family since 2005 on the long term project that will eventually bring the property into the city limits. Concept plans have the property being a mixture of businesses, commercial, light industrial and some residential.
