The New Prague City Council approved a change in its preliminary 2019 property tax levy for taxes payable in 2020 at its special Wednesday, Sept. 18, meeting. The council amended the preliminary levy, increasing it by $1,811.
City Administrator Mike Johnson explained that he made a miscalculation at the council’s Monday, Sept. 16, meeting. At that meeting the council agreed to two reductions, approximately $29,000 from the Health Insurance General Fund and $106,139 from the Debt Service. In adding the two, the actual number should have been $135,139. While that is $1,811 more, the preliminary levy still remains approximately $4.5 million. Johnson said he could carve off $1,811 or the council could go with the slight increase. Council member Rik Seiler made a motion to amend his motion on September 16 to show the increase. Mayor Chuck Nickolay seconded and the motion was approved 4-0. Council member Shawn Ryan was absent.
Technology Updates The council also took action on updating the city’s technology. It approved a motion to reject the two proposals the city received for the updates and managed IT services. It also approved a motion to re-authorize a solicitation of proposals based on the original criteria for the technology updates with a new deadline of 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11.
