Tri-City United High School’s one-act team, performing “How High Is Up?”, is advancing to the section 2A finals in Waseca on Saturday, Feb. 3.
“How High Is Up?” is written by Brendan Murray. It is the story of Little Star’s quest to save her friend’s life by trying to make time stand still instead of allowing seasons to change. Interesting characters come along Little Star’s journey, including meeting The Bird Who Has No Wings and The Magician of the Silent Snows.
The team, directed by Elise Lundeen, held a public performance last Thursday and performed at sub-sections this past Saturday at the TCU High School performing arts center where they placed second. Belle Plaine High School took first place. Only first and second place advance to the section finals from sub-section competition that was held last Saturday.
“We had our best performance on Saturday, and the judges could see that. We are thrilled to bring our show to sections. The team has worked really hard and really honed their skills as actors, theatre technicians and especially as teammates. They deserve this,” said Director Lundeen.
Tri-City United, Belle Plaine, St. Clair, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, Mountain Lake and Medelia high schools will all compete at the section finals at Waseca High School’s performing arts center this Saturday. TCU will perform at 11:40 a.m. and the public is invited to attend to support them.
The first performance starts at 10 a.m. and the last at 2:50 p.m. Admission at the door is $10 for adults and $5 for students and will allow you to see all six performances.
The teams are competing for a spot in the state competition Feb. 8 and 9 at O’Shaughnessy Auditorium on the campus of St. Catherine University in St. Paul.
All-Conference
Dakota Meadows, Olivia Skluzacek, Kendelyn Sauter and Aidan Miland also received all-conference honors at the Minnesota River Conference Festival in Le Sueur on Jan. 13 as a part of the team for the one-act play.
