A special piece of artwork from the Tri-City United High School’s Class of 2021 will soon be added to the school’s legacy collection.
A team of senior class artists including Anna Deutsch, Reagan Gaul, Brooke Blaschko, Jack Erickson, Isabelle Factor, Isabella Hennen, Sharia Steece, and Rachel Way, recently finished their class’s Senior Mural.
Katsushika Hokusai’s “Under the Wave off Kanagawa,” which is also known as The Great Wave,” was chosen by the seniors involved in Arteam or Art classes. The piece is part of a series of prints titled “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji,” which Hokusai made between 1830 and 1833.
According to Deutsch and Gaul, who were key painters in the project, Hokusai’s piece was selected because of its popularity. “And, we felt it was very unique to our class,” Deutsch added.
Gaul added: “We just thought it is a fun and challenging piece for us to recreate.”
Due to having such an unusual senior year, filled with a bunch of different learning models, due to COVID, the student artists reported it was challenging for them to find time to work on it and complete it in time. But, they got it done.
