As Christmas approaches, there are a lot of different holiday things to do. Families from Most Holy Redeemer School (MHRS) are no exception. Monday evening kids young and old slowly filtered into the school cafeteria for an Old Fashioned Christmas.
Neaner Kriha coordinated the event and staff and parents from the school helped put on the event. Various others donated from the community besides the listed to make this a 100% free event for families to enjoy over the dinner hours.
MHRS School Administrator Jean Pesta said, “I don’t know how she does it (Neaner). She does so much for them with all the events she does for the families.” A total of about 120 participated in the event this year.
There were entire families that showed up to make it a family night. Laura and Andy Velishek were one of them, taking all three of their boys there for dinner and fun.
Pizzeria 201 and a charcuterie platter from Odenthal Meats were among some of the donated food — both highlights of the dinner. Pizza and nachos seemed to be a favorite among the children, although some parents “forced” their children to take an item or two off of the veggie tray.
No Christmas celebration would be complete without an assortment of goodies, such as the reindeer cookies or Santahat bugles that were on display for consumption.
Depending on the order of events individuals completed, they may have eaten a sugar cookie they decorated themselves just moments before. Nikki Mahoney made a batch of homemade sugar cookies and donated them for the event where each family members was given one and the necessary supplies were provided for decorating them.
There were chances to win candy and other prizes - some for parents and some for children. Families could pose for a photo on the stage with a themed backdrop or sit down and color on Christmas-themed sheets.
