The annual Memorial Day parade returns to this year’s event on Monday, May 31.
The program that honors deceased veterans begins with Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Church. The Parade starts at 8:45 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer, goes east on Vine, south on First Street, and west on Elm Avenue.
The program at the Montgomery American Legion Post 79 begins at 9:15 a.m. Steve Flicek will be the Master of Ceremonies. It will also include songs by John Grimm, prayers by Pastor Jason Pollington and Father George Grafsky.
There will also be a Roll Call for deceased veterans, a Memorial Tribute, and the playing of “Taps.”
The speaker for the Program is Linda Dvorak, American Legion 3rd District Commander.
While in the military Dvorak worked in the personnel area spending most of her career as the Base Education & Training Manager.
After her retirement Dvorak worked in the quality control area of a local company until she was called back to the military to work as a civilian at the State Headquarters level in 2004. She serves as the Special Assistant to Senior Leadership.
In 2015 the Governor of Minnesota promoted her to E-9, Chief Master Sergeant based on her work in and out of the military. She was the second enlisted person to receive this honor at that time.
She is currently the Finance Officer and Membership Director for her local American Legion Post 45 in New Prague. She is also the Department of Minnesota Third District Commander, and is on the Board of Directors for the Park Ballroom in New Prague serving as the Finance Officer.
Dvorak and her husband Mark, also a retired Air Force Veteran and the current American Legion Department Commander, live outside of New Prague and have six children, 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The Memorial Day program is sponsored by the Montgomery American Legion Post 79 and the Montgomery Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5340.
Memorial Day in Kilkenny The Kilkenny American Legion John Balfe Unit 380, along with the support of the Auxiliary, will hold Memorial Day services on Monday, May 31 at the following times and locations: Sabre Lake Cemetery at 9 a.m., Trebon Cemetery at 10 a.m., and Calvary Cemetery at 11 a.m.
