Even though Mother Nature dumped more than a half of an inch of much-needed rain on the afternoon of Saturday, June 24, it didn’t deter people from attending the annual Fireman’s Relief Dance later in the day and into the night.
Fire Chief Kenny Pavek said, “The dance went well considering the weather we had Saturday. We had some storms come through just as Charlie Sticha had started playing. We had to do a few repairs on tents, and it rained for about an hour, keeping the crowd away. After the rain, the weather was alright, but the crowd was down from years past.”
They were still totaling the money raised at the time of press but the funds will go to support the fire department’s need for equipment. “We would like to thank the community for their continued support and hope everyone had a great night,” said Pavek.
The fire department also expressed thanks on Facebook to everyone who attended. “On behalf of the Montgomery Fire Department, we would like thank all of those who attended our Fireman’s Dance! We know the weather was not the greatest, but we are very thankful to those who stuck around or came later!” They also thanked its bartenders, ticket takers, musical acts Charlie Sticha Band and Smokescreen, Le Sueur County Pork Producers, and the fire department’s dance committee.
