Friday’s performances of the junior version of Footloose by Child’s Play Theatre was a fantastic one parents and friends could be proud of.
The two performances on June 5 were filled with minimalistic set and lighting and it really let the talent the mostly kindergarten through eighth graders in the show shine.
Grayson Wood, who played Ren McCormack, led the troupes of young adults in their dancing mischief. Cailyn Meadows, who played Ariel Moore — the preacher’s daughter, also tried to lead her posse of girls into the same mischief.
Child’s Play Theatre (CPT) is hosting two shows of “Footloose,” the youth edition, at Tri-City United High School’s performing arts center Friday, June 5, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
It is being directed and choreographed by 2026 TCU High School graduate Dakota Meadows, who said rehearsals started May 12th at TCU Montgomery PreK-8 School’s auditorium before moving to the high school this week. She is also assisted in directing by CPT founder Andy Velishek.
Tri-City United High School thespians are almost ready to show you their latest one act masterpiece, “The Last Firefly” by Naomi Iizuka.
It’s the story of “Boom,” who is the son of “Thunder,” and goes out to search for his father that left him and his mother “Kuroko.” It’s a mythical story that uses Japanese music and a style of puppetry.
The story was first commissioned and produced by Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis in 2016. TCU students are now putting their own spin on the tale.
