Tri-City United Schools teamed up with Let’s Smile, Inc. again this past school year to provide $14,002.00 in no-cost dental work for kids enrolled in the school district, according to TCU Community Education Director Layne Wilbright. It’s a partnership that started in the spring of 2024, and there is no cost to the school as well as families.
TCU Schools held their first of four open houses on Wednesday, April 1, at TCU Montgomery PreK-8 School regarding the upcoming special election on May 12 for a $39.99 million bond.
Tri-City United High School 2025 graduate Alexis Marcussen was named All-Defense Team for the North Region in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Women’s Basketball 2026 All-Region Awards. The awards were voted upon by the by each of the region’s coaches.
Marcussen plays for the Bellevue College Bulldogs in Bellevue, Wash., as a guard. It’s a suburb of Seattle. This season she has played in 28 games and started in 25 of those, playing an average of over 26 minutes a game.

The election in November 2025 came in with a failing vote for the Tri-City United School District’s $39.99 million dollar bond.
Music students from Tri-City United High School participated in the Section 2AA Solo and Ensemble Contest last Wednesday, March 4.
The school’s jazz band and the Encore choir both received the highest rating, a superior, at the contest.

Eleven bowlers from Tri-City United Schools competed in Mankato for the Minnesota Special Olympics State Bowling Tournament Nov. 22-23, 2025. It was one of eight sites containing a total of 792 volunteers and 4,106 athletes.
The TCU competitors had been playing and practicing since the end of September as a part of the TCU Titan Special Olympics Program that practiced at Pla Mor Lanes in Montgomery.
Tri-City United High School one act play director Elise Lundeen announced that due to the extreme cold weather, The Last Fire Fly public performance scheduled for tonight, Thursday, Jan. 22, will be postponed until sometime next week with details to be announced later.
Students will still be participating in Section 2A Subsection One Act Play competition this Saturday though at TCU High School in the performing arts center.
Former Tri-City United and Montgomery-Lonsdale Schools FFA advisor Barry Schmidt was inducted into the Minnesota FFA’s 2026 Hall of Fame. He joins seven others inducted for 2026.
The Tri-City United School District School Board voted on Monday, Dec. 22, to ask voters in the district again to pass the same $39.99 million bond that was proposed at the November 2025 single vote election. In November, the tax base that showed up to vote voted 926 in approval and 1,088 in opposition.

Tax impact on a $400,000 residential property would have been between $10.12-$10.66 a month.
The three precincts voted in total 926 (45.98%) in favor and 1,088 (54.02%) opposed.
Lonsdale voted to pass with 311 in favor and 269 opposed.
