Marilyn A. Sindelar, 92

Marilyn A. Sindelar, age 92, of New Prague, died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, May 20, 2024.  Marilyn was born on February 7, 1932, in the new home of Frank J. and Blanche (Kubesh) Rehor of New Prague.  She graduated from St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in 1945 and New Prague High School in 1949.  Marilyn was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis until her marriage to Russell J. Sindelar on May 16, 1953.  They lived in San Diego while he was in the Navy during the Korean War.  After Russ’s discharge, they returned to New Prague, and she was employed at the First National Bank.   Her employment ended with retirement from Minnesota Valley Breeders Association in August of 1985.  After Russ’s death in 1982, Marilyn found love again and married Robert J. Bednar on June 20, 1987.

 Marilyn was a member and former president of both the American Legion Auxiliary and Queen of Peace Auxiliary, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, St. Wenceslaus CCW, and a former member of the New Prague Golf Club.  She received the Auxilian of the Year Award from Queen of Peace in 1995.  Marilyn was a Boy Scout, Brownies, and Girl Scout Leader.  Her faith was important, and she served as a Eucharistic Minister and a lector at St. Wenceslaus.

 Russ and Marilyn were Vikings season ticket holders for many years, and she was a faithful follower of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.  She enjoyed flower gardening, yard work, knitting and crocheting.  She was an avid bridge and duplicate bridge player in the New Prague and Metro areas. Marilyn was the organizer of a women’s and men’s bridge group that met every Tuesday morning for the past thirty-some years.  She also coordinated ALL the class reunions from graduation to present!  She lived life to the fullest and on her terms.  She fulfilled her wish of dying in her own home, putting in her contacts and a dash of make-up!

Marilyn is survived by her children, Craig Sindelar (Mary Ellen Weeman) of New Prague, Penny Proshek (Joe Bianski) of New Prague; grandchildren, Nathan (Kim) Proshek of New Prague, Morgan Proshek (Crystal Lachermeier) of Fort Aransas, TX; great-grandchildren,  Adam and Hailey Proshek; brother, Rodney (Mary) Rehor of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Jackie Ruehling of New Prague.  She is preceded in death by husbands, Russ Sindelar (September 26, 1982) and Robert Bednar (May 8, 2017); brother, Roger Rehor; sister, Mary Catherine.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father George Grafsky officiating.  Visitation will take place at church for 1 hour prior to Mass.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the New Prague Golf Club.
