Evelyn T. Simon, 92
Evelyn T. Simon, age 92, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side, on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Mala Strana Health and Rehabilitation Center. Evelyn was born on October 15, 1931, in Webster, Rice County, to Frank and Agnes (Trenda) Rezac. She graduated from New Prague High School and married John M. Simon on June 2, 1951, in Norfolk, VA.
John and Evelyn owned and operated Simon’s Bar but in addition, Evelyn worked as a nursing assistant at Queen of Peace Hospital and Mala Strana Nursing Home.
Evelyn was a woman of deep faith, humility, and the epitome of service. She was involved with mission work, especially with the Prior Lake Retreat Center and Dorothy Day Center but many others as well. Evelyn had a golden heart, the first one to volunteer assistance, dedicated to caring for others, and willing to give whatever she had that might be needed. She made friends easily and was a favorite wherever she lived, with her quiet conversations and gentle smile. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and especially cooking. Her family was her greatest joy and any time spent with them filled her heart. Her kindness, willingness to visit, and her gentle smile will be missed by all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Brenda (Karl) Koenig of Deer River, Charles (Beverly) Simon of San Clemente, CA, Colleen (Peter) Russell of Duluth, Pamela (David) Tietz of New Prague; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Camilla Docken of Northfield and Lawrence (Bernice) Rezac of Webster. She is preceded in death by her husband, John on September 26, 2009; son, Philip; parents; brothers, Charles and Frank Rezac; sisters, Julia Splichal and Hattie Adamek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Mass will be live-streamed on npcatholic.org. Visitation will be held at church from 9-10 before Mass. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the New Prague Golf Club. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
