Amateur baseball doesn’t see a ton of home runs.

Very few hitters hit more than one, or possibly two in a game.

Union Hill shortstop Nathan Berg put on a power hitting show which probably has not been seen in many, many years.

Berg struck out in his first at bat Wednesday, June 30 against New Market. He then proceeded to hit home runs in four of his next five at bats, including a solo home run which provided the Bulldogs with the winning run.

To make Berg’s game even better, he closed out the contest in the bottom off the 10th, picking up the save in a 7-6 win.

Jack Becker also had a monster game, collecting four hits, scored twice, and hit a double for the Bulldogs.

Drew Otteson pitched the first six innings for Union Hill, allowing three runs on five hits. Becker picked up the win, allowing three runs on three hits. Berg struck out one in the 10th to earn the save.

Mason Trocke and Brett Herber each hit home runs for New Market.

In other DRS games June 30, Montgomery knocked off Faribault (4-1) and Shakopee edged Lonsdale (3-2). The Mallards scored three times in the eighth and once more in the ninth.

Johnny Krocak was the winning pitcher for the Mallards. Krocak, Cole Pint, Ryan Iverson, Tyler Bednar, and Mike Flicek each had two hits.

Shakopee scored a run in the 10th for the win. Marty Kalina and Jack Skluzacek each had two hits for the Aces.

New Market defeated Shakopee (10-0) Thursday July 1.

The only other games played over the 4th of July weekend featured Lonsdale and Veseli. The Aces won both games by scores of 6-5. They scored the winning run in both games in the final inning.

For Lonsdale in the first game, Marty Kalina had three hits and Brad Davis added two hits and three RBI.

Andrew Picka collected three hits and a pair of RBI for Veseli.

In the second game on July 4th, Adam Fjerstad pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs on five hits. He struck out 13.

Davis was 3-for-5 with two RBI and Jordan Yetzer was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double.

Michael Nezerka had a pair of RBI for Veseli. Riley Schaffer had a double and an RBI.

The DRS League standings didn’t change much with only six games played.

St. Patrick still holds the lead with a 13-3 record. Prior Lake and Union Hill are now tied for second with 9-5 records. New Prague is 8-5, Faribault 9-6, and Montgomery 7-7. Rounding out the bottom half of the league are St. Benedict (6-10), Lonsdale (5-9), Webster (5-9), Veseli (1-13), and Shakopee (1-14).
