Tennis team loses close match to Maple River

The Titan Tennis team got off to a great start when they hosted Maple River on September 16, but ended up losing the match 3-4 against the Eagles.

Titan Coach Diane Tiede said the No.1 doubles of MacKenzie Holmbo and Alexis Hoefs got off to a great start in their match, but just seemed to run out of gas in the end.

She also noted that Cynthia Balcazar and Kacie Traxler battled from behind to get a well-earned win at No. 3 doubles.

“It came down to us needing to get all of the final matches on the court - No.4 Singles, No.1 Doubles, and No. 3 Doubles. Unfortunately, we ended up one short,” Tiede said.

Singles No. 1 Monserrat Ruiz, TCU, defeated Kayla Berg, Maple River, 6-0, 6-3.

No. 2 Macy Sohre, Maple River, defeated Sami Tiede, TCU, 6-3, 6-0.

No. 3 Ally Mersman, Maple River, defeated Morgan Mueller, TCU, 6-4, 6-1.

No. 4 Savannah Squires, TCU, defeated Ellie Braaten, Maple River, 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles No. 1 Maddie Ward and Kelsey Jaeger, Maple River, defeated Mackenzie Holmbo and Alexis Hoefs, TCU, 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

No. 2 Leah Proehl and Claire Langworth, Maple River, defeated Molly Closser and Emma Treanor, TCU, 7-5, 6-4.

No. 3 Cynthia Balcazar and Kacie Traxler, TCU, defeated Brooke Reuter and Kenzie Walters, Maple River, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.

On September 14, TCU lost to Le Sueur-Henderson 2-5, but Coach Tiede said Monserrat Ruiz had a great match at two singles, winning 6-1, 6-3.

“She had great court vision and placed it where she needed to,” Tiede stated. “Alexis Hoefs and Kacie Traxler worked well...
