Montgomery firefighters remember 9/11

In addition to the Montgomery Fire Department (MFD) raising the United States Flag on the ladder of one of their fire engines on 9/11 in Memorial Park, four members of the department also participated in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on September 9.

Team Captain Sean Benz, along with Doug Woodgate, Josh Sivongxay and Travis Rose, headed to our rival stadium in honor of all fallen firefighters and the 343 that perished on 9/11.

Benz said, “A few weeks ago, we lost our brother, Lt. Mike Gau, from Belle Plaine Fire Department Relief Association. We wanted to honor him and our brothers from Belle Plaine, by wearing a team shirt designed by our good friend, Mariah Palma, from Silhouettes Embroidery and Screen Printing. We were so fortunate that she was able to make these on such short notice. As a team, we dedicated today’s climb to not only the 343 fallen firefighters and Lt. Mike Gau, but we also wore a sticker (which is on all of our fire helmets) in honor of former firefighter and fallen police officer from Montgomery Minnesota Police Department, Bryan Tupy.

We thank everyone who donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, all of the funds raised goes directly to the families of fallen firefighters.”

The event in Green Bay is put on by Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. from Appleton, Wis., and is hosted at Lambeau Field. All proceeds raised from the event go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation whose purpose is to honor fallen firefighters; help support their families, colleagues and...
