James F. “Peanuts” Uhlir, 83

James F. “Peanuts” Uhlir, age 83, of Montgomery, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at his daughter’s home in Montgomery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Funeral will be held on Friday, March 10 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery with Pastor Jason Pollington officiating with visitation 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be held in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery in spring. Military Honors provided by Montgomery area Veterans Honor Guard.

James was born on April 6, 1939 in Lexington, MN to Harvey George and Margaret Ellanora (Tiede) Uhlir. He was a graduate of Montgomery High School and Dunwoody Institute. He served in the United States Navy from 1960-1964 and received a Navy Good Conduct Medal as well as a National Defense Medal and Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon. James loved the outdoors, animals, visiting with people, and was known by many as “The Riddler”, gardening, sports (playing and coaching) was excellent at whistling (some believed he could speak with the birds, especially cardinals), and was very proud of being in the Navy and his children.

James is survived by children, Christine Benedict of Montgomery, Allen Uhlir of Rochester, Lonnette (Jack) Campbell of Stillwater, Eric (Mikey) Hinsch of Sedona, AZ, Jodi (Doug) Pearl of Center City, and Robert (Kristi) Hinsch of Lindstrom; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Emil Uhlir.
