Herbert “Herb” E. Sorgatz, 96

Herbert “Herb” E. Sorgatz, age 96, of Morristown, died Friday, December 6, 2019 at the Emeralds at Faribault.

Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Morristown on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Travis J. Loeslie, officiating. Interment will be at Concordia Cemetery, North Morristown with military rites by American Legion, Post 149, Morristown.

Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Arrangements are being completed by Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault.

Herbert Emil, son of Emil and Magdalena (Schulz) Sorgatz, was born at his home on August 31,1923 in Kilkenny Township. He grew up in the rural farming community of Waterville/North Morristown. He attended Trinity Lutheran School through the eighth grade and then worked on the farm until age 21. He married Leona Meta Villwock on September 7, 1944 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Morristown. On November 28, 1944, Herb was drafted into the U.S. Army at Ft. Snelling, MN as a Private, and was stationed near Okinawa, Japan. He settled in Rice County and together with his wife Leona raised nine children. He worked in construction until 1954. He then began employment with McQuay International in Faribault, where he would work 34 more years as a loyal employee. After his retirement in 1989, he liked to spend his time cutting wood for his furnace, fishing, traveling in the states, gardening, playing cards with family and friends, and socializing at the American Legion Post 149 in Morristown, where he was a member. In his later years, he enjoyed listening and watching music DVD’s, and especially liked visits from his family.

After the passing of Leona in December of 2002, Herb was united in marriage to Mammie M. Judd on December 6, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. They were married 8 years before her passing.

Herb is survived by his nine children, Elaine (and John) Gleason of Lapeer, MI, Nancy (and George) Champagne of Kingwood, TX, Larry (and Michelle) Sorgatz of Faribault, MN, David (and Sue) Sorgatz of Dawson, ND, Timothy (and Patty Buesgens) Sorgatz of Waterville, MN, Brenda (and Carl) Hardies of Clio, MI, of Mankato, MN, 12 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; half-brother, Delbert Sorgatz of Waterville, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Magdalena; stepmother Amelia; wife Leona; wife Mammie; sister Ruth Villwock; grandson Andrew Gleason; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
