Trojans swept away by Storm, ripped by Hawks

The New Prague High School boys hockey team had two tough losses in the last week, as the Trojans lost 6-1 to the Chaska Hawks on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and were shut out by the Chanhassen Storm 5-0 on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Five different Hawks scored for Chaska, scoring two goals in every period. Chaska’s Tanner Bruender was the only one who scored multiple times for the Hawks, who scored off of the five hole and a rebound.

Chaska certainly took their opportunities and ran with them, pelting senior goaltender Carter Puente 34 shots on goal. New Prague’s Michael Beckius scored with less than a minute to go to break the shutout, but it was too little, too late.

The story of the game against Chanhassen was not the score, but the shots on goal. Chanhassen had an insane total of 63 shots on goal for the game, compared to the 15 shots New Prague had for the game.

The game didn’t start out well for the Trojans, with Chanhassen’s Tyler Smith scoring on a weird angle at the bottom of the faceoff circle to make it 1-0 Storm early in the first.
