Sue’s Quilt Shop gets makeover with help from grant

Area residents likely saw work going on at Sue’s Quilt Shop the week of Monday, Oct. 12. Over three days the building was receiving joint work and tuck pointing between brick and terra cotta on the front of the business. Crews from Simon Brick and Stone Co. out of Le Center were doing the work, at one point using a crane to reach the top of the building, which is around a century old.

“For that old of a building I can’t believe how good of shape it’s in,” said Brett Simon, owner and operator of Simon Brick and Stone Co.

He was hired by Drs. Timothy and Wendy Goldsmith, owners of the building, where they once operated Goldsmith Eye Care. The work was done through the Minnesota Small Cities Development Program Grant that the City of New Prague received from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development in 2016. The program can help commercial and residential structures. Under the program the Goldsmiths received.....
