Scott County says New Market I-Park won’t need EIS

Scott County commissioners recently decided the 96-acre industrial park in northeastern New Market Township will not need additional environmental review before it is developed.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, the county board decided with no public discussion the land could be developed into a rural light industrial park with a range of lot sizes and mix of uses in Section 1 of New Market Township, at the corner of County Road 29 and Lyndale Avenue in the far northeastern corner of the township. The industrial park will be platted into 26 lots with buildings ranging in size from 10,000 to 75,000 square feet with outdoor storage uses.

An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) was required for this development as it meets the threshold for mandatory environmental review for industrial, commercial and institutional facilities. It met the threshold because the proposal calls for more than 150,000 square feet of gross floor space in an unincorporated area. Scott County is the zoning and permitting authority for this development, and therefore, the responsible governmental unit for this EAW.
