Rosemary "Rosie or Rose" Hasty, 89

Rosemary (Rosie or Rose) Hasty, was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and best friend, and she leaves behind a legacy of laughter. She was known for a lot of fantastic things, but making people laugh and feel good about themselves was her specialty. People were drawn to her, laughing with her, breathing her in, always walking away in stitches.

Rosie grew up near Duluth, Minnesota, in Fredenberg Township. She was the 5th of 7 children born to Frank and Elsie Kaneski on February 12, 1935. They nicknamed her Sunshine because of her pleasant nature and zest for life. Coming from a musical family, she developed her talent as a pianist with which she entertained people far and wide, able to play any song by ear throughout her life. She married Maurice Hasty in July of 1958, and she was a natural domestic dynamo, raising 2 daughters while working full-time, keeping the household for her family. Rosie was a terrific cook, often keeping recipes in her head rather than on paper. Maurice and Rosie bought a dairy farm in Askov, Minnesota, in 1973, where Rosie milked cows daily, baled hay, delivered calves, and took part in all activities of the farm. In 1983, Maurice and Rosie moved to western Nebraska, where Rosie took a job as a cook at Perkins County Health Services and Golden Ours Convalescent Home. She made many friends there, including staff, residents and patients, always greeting folks with a smile and a readiness to lend a hand. Rosie loved her grandchildren and got down on their level to enhance the fun, having what she called “loving matches” where there were tickles and laughter and jokes, always ready with a Certs or LifeSavers in her purse. She loved taking her grandson Dustin on fishing trips to Merritt Reservoir, renting a cabin, cooking and perking coffee in the mornings, and fishing in the afternoons, ending the day with a burger at the Waters Edge restaurant, and making memories with her granddaughter Kelly with trips to Mystic Lake Casino.

In the year 2000, Maurice and Rosie moved to Thedford, Nebraska, where Rosie continued to work as a cook, this time at the high school in Thedford. She again made many friends with the kids and staff with her unforgettable humor and ready smile. Maurice passed away in 2010, so Rosie moved to New Prague, Minnesota, to be near her daughter Lisa’s family. She enjoyed various activities and events, and often drove to her daughter’s home to help mow the lawn or plant flowers. She developed and maintained a special close friendship with her youngest granddaughter, Jessica, and the 2 of them pulled off various capers over the years, with many laughs and silliness and memory making. In 2019, Rosie entered a memory care facility near her family, and ultimately hospice, and she passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at the age of 89.

Rosie leaves behind her loving family including daughter Lisa (Mike) Deaver of Minnesota, grandson Dustin (Jessica) Deaver of Minnesota, granddaughter Kelly Zoubi Thiono and children Michael and Liza of Minnesota, and granddaughter Jessica (Tim) Kingland and children Rhett and Colt of Minnesota, as well as daughter Laurie (Mike) Klonecki and children Danielle and Adam of Florida.

Rosie was an amazing human being. She loved everything good in life, and she is sorely missed. If you had the chance to know her, you are blessed. See you on the flip side, mom. We love you forever.
