NP girls headed for section soccer playoffs
New Prague’s girls’ soccer team is working to build momentum as it heads for the section soccer playoffs next week.
New Prague faced Benilde-St. Margaret’s Tuesday. Details were not available when The New Prague Times went to press.
At 9-2-3, the Trojans will head south today, Thursday, Oct. 3, 4:30 p.m., to face Mankato East. The section playoffs open Tuesday, Oct. 10, 5 p.m., at Trojan Stadium.
Trojans 1, Chanhassen 0 New Prague enjoyed a solid performance Sept. 26 against a tough opponent. The Storm and Trojans were tied for second place in the Metro West Conference.
“We knew that if we continued to play the way that we have been, it was going to be a great game, regardless of the outcome,” said coach Ali Jo Hentges.
New Prague started the game strong, but against a strong pressuring team. About two and a half minutes into the game, Chanhassen had a hand-ball foul in the goalie box off of an attempted cross from NP’s Olivia Quast. With the violation in the goal box, the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick.
NP drilled the shot into the bottom corner of the net for the match’s lone goal.
“The girls, again, came together. Throughout the game, we unfortunately had girls out due to injuries, so we all had to dig deep and support each other through the game,” Hentges said. “Our defensive line truly did an...
