Neptune hosts regional meet

Nearly 1000 people converged at the New Prague Aquatic Center this past weekend for the Minnesota Regional Championships Swim Meet hosted by Neptune Aquatics.

This was the first regional level Neptune Aquatics has hosted, according to Neptune coach Chuck Webb.

“This really helps to showcase the facility to the rest of the State and shows that we are capable of running meets at this caliber level,” said Webb.

In all, there were 12 clubs represented, including Neptune Aquatics, and 550 youth swimmers competing in a variety of events.

Webb said the local venue was one of six places throughout the state to host the championship meet this year.

Previously, Neptune Aquatics hosted two championships, but at the level just under the Minnesota Regional, which is for younger swimmers and attracts about half as many participants as the MRCs.

“This is really a step up,” Webb said.

The event began on Friday and continued on both Saturday and Sunday. It required countless hours and volunteers to make the event run smoothly and be successful. And it showed, Webb said, based on the multitude of compliments he’s received Neptune hosts regional meet from swimmers, families, and more.

“The officials gave us great accolades for our execution of planning and the volunteers,” he said. “It was a highly successful meet for the team, their families and community. It really helped to bring in a lot of revenue from outside to support our local businesses. We all pulled together and it’s humbling and I’m honored to be a part of it.”
