MN Historical Society honors Dvorak

New Prague’s Dennis Dvorak was recently named to the Minnesota Historical Society’s Honorary Council, which recognizes individuals for distinguished work in service of Minnesota history and advancement of the mission of the state historical society, which is “Using the power of history to transform lives” by preserving, sharing and connecting. Dvorak was being honored for his work with the New Prague Area Historical Society. The recognition came during the Minnesota Historical Society’s 171st annual meeting, which was held as a Zoom meeting due to the pandemic. Members of the Minnesota Historical Society bring people forward for the Honorary Council. Dvorak said that Lieutenant General Richard Nash, retired, of New Prague, who serves on the state historical society’s Executive Council, brought his name forward.

Most who know Dvorak know of his championing New Prague area history. His work in area history began in 1974 when he and other New Prague residents began planning New Prague’s celebration of the United States’ bicentennial. Dvorak said he was 31 and most of the other members were 20 to 30 years older than him. “New Prague had a rich generation of people who were willing to share their knowledge,” he said of the group. “We recognized each other’s strengths and knowledge,” added Dvorak. “It was from that group that was ......
