Main Street construction update for week of 4/5

The Week of 4/5/2021:
Road Closure and Detour is expected to be in place prior to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5th.

On Monday, April 5th, the contractor (SM Hentges & Sons, Inc.) will be saw cutting pavement, curbs, and walks in preparation of removals to begin the next day.

Removals of pavement, curb, and walks will continue during the week. The contractor is expected to start with removals on Tuesday, April 6th, beginning at mid-block between 1st Avenue NE and Central Avenue and working their way west to 2nd Avenue NW. The removals will be east to west as the contractor utilizes the existing roadway to haul out materials to the staging site west of 2nd Avenue NW.

The contractor has indicated that they plan to remove the concrete sidewalks right away and place rubber matting to maintain the pedestrian access to the businesses.

Temporary water main will be tied into the buildings along Stage 1 to prepare for the utility work to begin the week of April 12th.

The Week of 4/12/2021:
The contractor will begin sanitary sewer construction with their 1st utility crew. The sanitary sewer work will begin at the 2nd Avenue NW intersection and progress east.

The Week of 4/19/2021:
The contractor will begin water main construction with a 2nd utility crew. The water main work will also begin at 2nd Avenue NW and follow behind the sanitary sewer work progressing east.

The concrete flatwork that could not be completed last season due to the snow and cold temperatures is expected to resume and is estimated to be completed in less than 2 weeks.

General Traffic Control/Detour Notes:
During the duration of construction activities, thru traffic is being detoured off TH 19 and rerouted along the designated detour route (westbound along 10th Avenue NE / 7th Street NE/NW / TH 21, and eastbound along TH 21 / County Road 29 / 10th Avenue SE). (See map on project website.)
Access routes from adjacent streets and side streets have been designated. Portions of the project within the construction limits may be signed for a hard closure “ROAD CLOSED” or a soft closure “ROAD CLOSED – NO THRU TRAFFIC”. The soft closures are to provide some limited access from the street to properties where there is no active construction taking place.
