Inez Horejsi, 87

Inez Horejsi, age 87 of Northfield,  passed away Sunday morning, December 1, 2019, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Inez Esther Moravec Horejsi was born June 17, 1932, at her grandparents’ home in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, to Emil and Sylvia (Krocak) Moravec.  She was baptized at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale and confirmed at Holy Redeemer in Montgomery.  After her education she worked at the general store, at the canning factory, and as a waitress at a restaurant where she met her future husband, Edward Horejsi.  On September 9, 1953, Inez married Edward at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  After marriage they farmed on the Horejsi family farm in Webster Township.  Over the years, Inez cared for her children and her grandchildren.  In 1995, Edward and Inez retired and moved to their home in Northfield.  Edward passed away in 2011.

Inez was a member of the Church of St. Dominic, and a longtime former member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli. Over the years she was active with the Webster Mother’s Club and as a leader for her children’s 4-H club.  She enjoyed baking, cooking, polka dancing and Czech music.  Inez truly loved the outdoors and gardening.  She always maintained a beautiful garden and an immaculate yard - a place for her grandchildren to run and play.  Her family will long remember the big heart, kind and well meaning nature, and her grandchildren’s favorite cinnamon rolls, Jell-O and mac-n-cheese.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth Horejsi of Northfield, Kathleen Jandro of Dundas, Margaret (Patrick) Andre of Edina; 6 grandchildren, Chris (Jaclyne) Jandro, Sarah (Chad) Kennedy, Adam (Lindsay) Horejsi, Dan Horejsi, Phil Andre and Nick Andre; 4 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kaiden, Shawn and Archer;  her brother, Richard (Veda) Moravec of Faribault; her sister Darlene (Gary) Buss of Westminster, Colorado; her sister-in-law, Jeanette Horejsi of Hutchinson;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her son-in-law Rick Jandro, her grandson Willie, and her sister Irene Shimota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30AM, Friday, December 6, 2019, at the Church of St. Dominic, Northfield.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at Benson & Langehough Funeral Home, Northfield, and will continue at church on Friday one hour prior to the service.   Interment will be in the Spring at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Veseli.  Casket bearers will be her grandchildren.
