Four students from Europe stopped by The New Prague Times office last week, looking for information on the community’s Czech heritage and also some Czech food. Pictured are, left to right, Richard Sramek and Zaneta Paskerova, from the Czech Republic, Dennis Dvorak of the New Prague Historical Society, who volunteered to give them a tour of the community, and Valeriia Podolian and Oleksandr Borovskyi, both from Ukraine, who are studying in Prague, in the Czech Republic. The four are working at Valleyfair in Shakopee during the summer.

New Prague had some visitors from the Czech Republic on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Four university students who are spending the summer working at Valleyfair were in town, hoping to find signs of the community’s Czech heritage and perhaps some Czech food. They stopped by The New Prague Times office, hoping for guidance.

Two of the students - Richard Sramek and Zaneta Paskerova, are from Ostara in the Czech Republic. The other two, Oleksandr Borofskyi and Valeriia Podolian, are from Ukraine, but are attending school in Prague.

The students were interested to learn about some of the history of the community, and their eyes lit up when told where they could get some kolacky. Before leaving, they were given copies of the New Prague Times Sesquicentennial publication, published in 2006, which provides much information on the history of the community.

We contacted Dennis Dvorak, with the New Prague Historical Society, who volunteered to give the students a tour of the community. The students plan to remain in the US until October, and were invited to visit New Prague during its Dozinky celebration on September 21.
