St. Patricks edges Union Hill in battle of top DRS teams

St. Patrick won its 6th straight game Sunday, June 13, knocking off league-leading Union Hill, 4-1.

The Irish moved within one game of the Bulldogs with the victory. St. Patrick is 9-3, tied with Prior Lake for the second spot in the DRS Amateur Baseball League. Union Hill, winners of four of their last five, sits on top of the league with an 8-2 record.

Luke Tupy picked up the win for the Irish, pitching seven innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. He struck out 11 and walked one. Zach Seurer pitched the final two innings, striking out four.

Second baseman Kal Brohmer and third baseman Ryan Fridges each finished with three hits, two RBIs, and a home run for the Irish.

Jack Kreutzian took the loss for the Bulldogs, pitching eight innings. He allowed four earned runs on 11 hits. He struck out five and walked four.

Joe Becker had two hits for Union Hill and Adam Giesen knocked in the lone run with a double in the fourth.

In games played Wednesday, June 9, St. Patrick defeated Faribault (12-1), Elko defeated Prior Lake (16-0), Union Hill shutout Webster (10-0), and New Prague downed Shakopee (9-2).

In the win for the Orioles, James Fuerniss and TJ Bergland combined to pitch nine strong innings. Eric Wagner, Ben Buthe, and Fuerniss each had multi-hit games.

In games played Friday, June 11, Prior Lake knocked off Faribault (9-4), Elko defeated Northfield (7-1), Rochester shutout New Market (13-0), and Veseli picked up its first win of the season in a 7-6 non-league victory over Cleveland.

Two games were played Saturday, June 12. Union Hill downed St. Benedict (13-4) and St. Patrick shutout Veseli (12-). Joe Becker was the winning pitcher for Union Hill and Will Busch hit his first home run of the season. Phillip Garcia pitched a two-hitter for St. Patrick while Jack and Ryan Friedges each had three hits. Ryan also added a two-run homer.

Other games Sunday, June 13 included Webster edging Faribault (5-4), Prior Lake downing St. Benedict in seven innings (11-1), and New Market defeating Elko (8-2).

Koby McBroom hit a three-run homer for Prior Lake and Ben Morrison pitched a complete game.

Jacob Bellile hit a pair of big flies and Max Drexl ripped a double to help the Webster Sox win.

The DRS standings as of June 14: Union Hill (8-2), Prior Lake (9-3), St. Patrick (9-3), Faribault (7-4), New Prague (5-4), Lonsdale (4-5), Webster (4-7), St. Benedict (4-8), Montgomery (3-7), Shakopee (0-9), and Veseli (0-10).
