New Market wins 3 more in DRS action

New Market is now the lone undefeated Class C team in the Dakota-Rice- Scott League, as they won three games during the week, upping their record to 13-0. The Muskies have a 3-1/2 game lead over second-place St. Patrick, which lost their first game of the season to Faribault.

Faribault, Elko and Prior Lake all won two games as well during the past week.

Wednesday, June 5 Muskies 12, Warriors 2 Brett Herber started for New Market and went six innings to get the win as the Muskies defeated Veseli 12- 2. Jackson Jirik started for Veseli and went five innings to take the loss. Both teams scored two runs early. Kyle Bergstrom drove in two with a double in the top of the first, but Veseli had an RBI single from Will Forberg and double-steal that brought home Logan Reger to tie it at 2-2 in the third. The Muskies scored one in the fourth to take the lead for good and added four in the fifth.

Orioles 7, Bulldogs 2 New Prague used a fiverun seventh inning to topple Union Hill. The game was moved from Union Hill to New Prague due to field damage from Tuesday’s storm. Bryce Novak started for the Orioles and pitched seven innings, striking out nine. The Orioles picked up two runs in the first inning on hits by Eric Wagner and James Fuerniss. The Bulldogs tied it with runs in the fourth and fifth with RBI singles from Zack Dubanoski and Derek Masberg. Dubanoski was the top hitter for the Bulldogs with two hits, Luke Zweber started and took the loss for Union Hill. Nathan Sprouls pitched the final two innings for the Orioles.

Mudcats 9, Coyotes 3 Prior Lake scored nine runs in the fourth inning to defeat Shakopee 9-2 in Prior Lake. Luke Weber started and went five innings for Prior Lake, allowing just three hits to get the win. Zach Lovera struck out five in four innings Josh Dvorak took the loss. Tanner Graff had a tworun homer for Shakopee.

Lakers 10, Irish 9 Faribault squandered a 9-2 lead, giving up seven runs in the last two innings, only to win on a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth for a 10-9 victory. Joey Grote was the winning pitcher, going 1-2/3 innings. Matt Pexa and Will Walsh each had two hits and Pexa drove in two runs for St. Patrick. Express 8, Saints 1 No details were provided. Thursday, June 6 Mudcats 8, Mallards 3 Prior Lake built a 6-2 lead and held on for an 8-3 win over Montgomery Thursday. Ben Morrison pitched seven innings for the win. Jake Lehrer had three hits - two of them home runs - and four RBIs. Pat Lloyd had three hits for the Mallards and Cole Pint two.

Friday, June 7 Lakers 12, Saints 6 Faribault defeated St. Benedict 12-5. Egan Bonde got the win for the Lakers, while Cody Pirkl took the loss for the Saints.

Aces 3, Mallards 2 Joe Sabal pitched 10-1/3 innings leading the Lonsdale Aces to a 3-2 win over the Montgomery Mallards Friday night in Lonsdale. Sabal scattered eight hits while striking out nine without walking a batter and Isaac Pint pitched the final 2-2/3 innings to pick up the extrainning win. Jack Skluzacek and Ross Beumer combined for 5 hits and 4 walks. Mike Flicek led the Mallards with three hits.

Sunday, June 9 Muskies 6, Bulldogs 4 In the first of two home games Sunday, New Market picked up a 6-4 win over Union Hill. The Muskies’ Nate Rost got the win on the mound and Justin Firpo picked up a save. Joe Becker took the loss. Union Hill scored first, getting one on a sacrifice fly. New Market answered with four in the bottom of the first, the big damage coming from a three-run bomb off the bat of Nick Rost.

Muskies 4, Warriors 3 New Market took an early 1-0 lead in the second thanks to an RBI single from Joe McKibben, but Veseli would take the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs on three hits and one New Market error. The big blows were RBI doubles from Ben Doerr and Corey Friedges. The score would remain 3-1 in favor of Veseli until the bottom of the eighth, when Nate Rost hit a clutch two-runhomer with one out to tie the game. Joe McKibben delivered an RBI single to drive home the go-ahead run. Riley Ahern started for the Fish and went seven, and Justin Firpo pitched two innings for the win.

Mallards 7, Sox 0 Webster traveled to Montgomery and the Mallards’ Dusty Beckius picked up the win, throwing seven scoreless innings as they defeated the Sox 7-0. Montgomery scored seven runs from the second through seventh inning and that proved to be enough. Cole Pint had three hits, including a double and a triple, Eric Iverson had two hits, including a double, Ryan Iverson homered.

Irish 9, Mudcats 7 Prior Lake scored three first-inning runs, but couldn’t hold on to the lead and lost to St. Patrick 9-7. The Irish were led by Seth Ambroz, who went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Zach Seurer got the win and Josh Simon the save. BJ Benz was 3-for-4 with a double for Prior Lake. Lucas Pumper took the loss.

Saints 4, Lakers 3 St. Benedict defeated Faribault 4-3 in 10 innings on Sunday in St. Benedict. Mitchell Martin tied the game at 3-3 with a homer off starting pitcher Matt Lane in the eighth inning, then ended the game on a walkoff home run in the 10th.
