Lonsdale sets budget, looks for fire dept. volunteers
The Lonsdale City Council has approved another no-frills budget and property tax levy for the 2022 fiscal year.
“I know there are no frills in this budget,” said Lonsdale City Council Member Kevin Kodada. “I know we won’t end up in a surplus like the state did.”
Lonsdale City Administrator Joel Erickson echoed Kodada’s statement as he went over the budget and property tax levy proposed for approval at the December 9 council meeting.
“The whole city budget is as basic as it gets,” Erickson said.
He said that the council held six public meetings during the last half of 2021 to discuss the budget and received any and all input and feedback from city department leaders, advisory board leaders, the council, and the citizens of Lonsdale, before coming to a consensus on the proposed budget.
Based on these discussions and lack of public comment during the public comment portion of the December 9 meeting, the tax levy proposed was set at $2,445,000. This is an increase of $203,750 or 9.09 percent compared to the 2021 approved tax levy.
